investment visa

having started my business three months ago and being that my student visa is about run its course i am heading off to either Maracaibo or Panama City to get an investment visa... I know a few guys who have got there visas in Venezuela with little trouble is it just as easy in Panama City to get an investment visa.. I will have all the necesary paperwork etc.. Just would rather fly to Panama City than the long process of getting to Maracaibo.
cheers, kelvin

gorgonabob I flew to Panama City for a business visa in 2002, I paid a intermidary in Ctg to sort out my paperwork, he then sent it to Panama, the consulate checked it, said it was OK and I flew there and got my visa in 30 mins.

I am not sure I would go to any overseas Embassy without checking before hand that all my paperwork is in order.

you mean business visa The process is relatively simple. I recieved mine in Atlanta with no trouble at all. The lady typed up my visa as she asked me questions. The trick is to make sure you have the paperwork prepared and HAVE THE LAW WITH YOU. If you are american the visa is FREE.

investor visa More importantly, you need Banco de La Republica´s formulario 4 with stamp (sello) from the intermediary bank (almost all Colombian banks are intermediaries) that did the foreign exchange. This shows the investment was registered and more importantly, gives you rights to expatriate your money out of the country. Withdrawals from an ATM in Colombia are not acceptable to apply for a visa and legally speaking, since it´s not registered, that money does not have a right to be expatriated.

You also need to get fingerprinted at your local police station, then have the fingerprint card and a note requesting the criminal history check done at the state police headquarters (e.g. in NJ you´ll be sending the package to Trenton), that has to come back then you need to send the fingerprint card and official letter from the state police to get Apostilled (e.g. in NJ you´ll send to Trenton) and then finally when all that comes back, you can go to the consulate and get the visa and pay around US$375 cash. No it´s not free.

Here´s the info from http://www.colombiaemb.org/opencms/opencms/consuladodc/visas/index.html

Best... follow tomtom33's and spigrimace's advice or big trouble, in the form of heavy tax penalties, could follow.

P.S. Do not be mislead on advice that the government will not try and collect.

maybe its a different type of visa i am looking at i am aware that i only need to invest 42 million pesos... my friend bought one taxi last year, went to venezuela and got a two year business visa.. maybe i am confusing that with a investment visa... i will only be taking with me a record of a 42 million investment myself...i have my business registered, the NIT etc everything just getting a record of the amount of my investment 40 million thereabouts and then am off...

whats the difference

gorgonabob Yes its a business visa that you are after.

The differance is that an investment visa is US$100,000.
