Introducing The Lion's Den American Sports Bar of Parque Lleras, Medellin

Hello,

We are officially opening The Lion's Den Sport's Bar on Car 36 No. 10-49 inside the Tiger Paw Hostel on Aug 30th for the start of US football season. I will be announcing a grand opening date and party with more details later.

We have a full American-style menu including chicken wings, black-bean nachos, hamburgers, black-bean chili, grilled chicken sandwiches, etc.

We will be focused on college football (US) and NFL football during the season but have Direct TV with many other international sports leagues. We have a combination of 6 different wide screen / large flat screen / LCD / plasma TVs. Please call in advance to see if we are showing your favorite college or NFL team. We will try to accommodate everyone we can. Our number is 311-6079. You can also email the hostel for information on games at info at tigerpawhostel.com. We will also have a link on our website at www.tigerpawhostel.com with pictures and scheduling information very soon.

We are having a soft-opening now and reviews on the food have been great. The chef and co-partner of the restaurant is excellent.

We also offer a happy-hour special of 1 mil pesos on beer from 6 pm to 7 pm.

I hope to see everyone there!

Brian

Will defintely come by.....Maybe won't buy the NFL Pass this year..via the Internet...which all games are in English and actually the picture was not bad if you had the 700K Feed with the NFL Pass on the Internet via Yahoo Sports.

Hi SG - we are planning a few parties. We are also planning a pub crawl. Keep checking the website at www.tigerpawhostel.com and I'll post it on there. I would like to get another hostels involved too. I have been meaning to call a couple other hostels like Blacksheep and Casa Mayde about that.

Hi panthdave - Panthers fan I am guessing? I grew up in South Carolina and they played their first season at my college's stadium (Clemson). Yeah, I have the NFL ticket on Direct TV so I'll have most of the games on as well as the Red Zone channel for the fantasy football junkies like me. I am forced to put the college games on the TV from the internet feeds but we have the highest speed connect available at the bar so the picture is not too bad.

Panthdave is for the Florida Panthers (Rat Pack).....Has Direct TV changed and will put more English Games...Remember last year only a couple were in English and many in Spanish but assuming you could get NFL GameDay Audio which has alittle of a delay...

Two questions Brian...

On Sundays for the "1:00 games", there are usually at least 8 games on at the same time. You mentioned 6 TV's, and some of us are huge fans of specific teams or enjoy being able to see all of them at once. What happens to the two other games???? Red-zone coverage doesn't cut it.

Parking...any plans or assistance?

I will definitely have to come by and see the TV setup and test out the food, maybe next weekend!

Big;... DirectvLa screwed us over last season by only showing about 1/2 the 1:00 games last season , Three channel's plus the Red Zone .. Looks like the same set up this season ! A bunch of Us from all over Latin America raised hell with the main office and man in charge last year ( New York ) .. Basically told us to take a flying leap ..

NFL PASS Online Yahoo Sports will show all the games and in Stereo English..just plug to the LCD but need the 700K Feed which is no problem now in Medellin...

bigtexas1974 says on Jul 27, 2008, 13:03:

Water - yeah, I heard about that last year.

I just know that "other locations" who also show the games are able to make up for that deficiency via other means through a variety of online or satellite broadcasts, therefore no game is missed. In addition, having only 6 TV's for an 8-game showing means something will be missed. Just wanting to know if that will be avoided or will someone show up to find their game not being shown - will we need to call/confirm every week?

Panthdave...Yahoo Sports is great if you have the right connection, agreed. This year I will have it and run it straight into my widescreen plasma to BOOM the Cowboys games in English in the privacy of my home. The disadvantage is that you cannot multiple stream off the same IP address or account, so bar owners run into huge complications there - one at a time and no multiple-game showings.

BigTexas1974, don't worry we will not show the sorry ass-cowboys if we have to skip a team or so!! LOL!! Of course we would only be able to show 12 of the 16 teams if there are 8 games scheduled for 1:00 pm. If that is the case, we will work on showing the most popular teams through our Direct TV, Sling Box, and Internet broadcasts (1500K feed). You can always call ahead to make sure your game is playing at 311-6079. I haven't yet seen the schedules and TV times for this year. We WILL have great food and free pool in the sports bar as well.

BillBigD, That is going to be a good game for sure, I am nervous about it but I gotta believe that you are too. Clemson is never as good or bad as people think. Com'on down though to watch the game. I'll have it on the big screen with full sound. I also heard ESPN Gameday will be in Atlanta for the game.

bogotabrian says on Jul 28, 2008, 07:34:

GB - I have to have rugby because I've been asked a few times already. I just don't know much about the leagues and available packages offered on Direct TV and the internet. This is something I guess I'll be learning. The focus will definitely be on NFL on Sundays and Mondays starting the end of August.

What are you guys planning for the festival? How is Milly doing? ;-) LOL

Milly is a piece of work alright. She told me she was a missionary, told one guest she was a teacher, then another guest that she was a lawyer. She told still another guest that his girlfriend who she had met for 5 seconds was a slut and he shouldn't be with her. I think someone already kicked her in the head a few times. Apparently she booked with both of us at the same time which I really don't understand. Please take a piss on the ashes for me!

Brian,

What are your hours? I'll be back in Medellin the weekend of August 15. I would like to stop by and meet any Americanos living there that happen to be sober or nearly so who can offer any advice about moving to or living in Medellin. I would prefer good advice, but right now, I'll take anything....I'll sort it out later. At 1,000 pesos per...I might buy the house a round. (I said MIGHT!)
