Internet Phone Calls - Canada to Colombia

I call my girlfriend in Colombia twice a day using Skype. I'm pretty happy with the rate but because we talk so much, I wonder if anyone knows of a better rate.

I call her cell phone for 11.5 cents a minute. Is there anything cheaper?

cloncom.com lists cards to call from Canada to Colombia for as little as 6.2 cents per minute. I use them to call home from the U.S. and have had very good results.

if she uses SKYPE too, the call is free (PC to PC)
speedypin sells cards for as low as 2.5 cents / min to call land lines

You're right, Jorge. Unfortunately I had many bad calls and dropped lines with skype. I think what they call broadband in Colombia ain't really so. I'll check speedypin. Cheers.

I checked most of the cards that work in Canada and there are either extra charges, one needs to be in a large city to get access, or the sound is terrible.

Best sound and value is Skype only when both parties have computers (perfect sound and free).

Calling card of choice for best value, with no hidden charges, is President Choice Calling Card. 10 cents to landlines and 12 cents to cells. The sound is good and you can recharge the card and keep track of your calls on the internet. Buy at your local Extra Foods, Wholesale Foods, or Real Canadian Superstore. They should pay me for this plug.

If you have a bad connection with skype, hang up and try again, and keep trying until you get a real clear connection. i've never had to dial more than 3 times to get a crystal clear connection.

You should not be paying more than 2.5 cents a minute to call cel or landline using regular landline in Canada. How much you pay is directly porportional to how much you let them screw you for.

I've been using Orbitel's "Tu Linea Directa" service for the past few months. It's a Voip service like vonage etc.. except instead of getting an American or Canadian Phone number, you get a Colombian number. I have the $40 a month plan. Unlimited incoming calls of course. It doesn't cost my girlfriend anything extra to call me from her house. And the rate is the same as any other residential number from her Cell. The $40/month plan comes with $30/month credit for outgoing calls. That gets you 522 (5.75 cents/min) minutes to a cellphone or 1533 minutes to landline. I call both, so it averages out between 522 and 1533. The call quality has been excellent. Service also includes other common features like called id,call blocking, call forwarding, and voicemail. Your voicemail is routed to your email.

Questions on cheap phone rates and the like is very common on PBH, and an FAQ might be a good idea.

For me I use www.voipbuster.com, buy some credit, (pretty cheap really) then free calls to many countries, including Canada... I've been using it for over a year and have rarely had a problem with the line quality...

I have a plan with telus....1000 min a month (anytime min) for 20 bucks calls to colombia....the way i got that was i sought out a better rate with primus (about 8 or 9 cents a min) and then after seeing they were losing my long distance business telus called within days offering the 1000 min/month plan(2 cents a min to any phone cell or otherwize in colombia)....i live in alberta...if you switch to primus is a sure bet telus will call and offer a better rate trying to get your long distance business back(they will not let your business just walk away they will call offering a better rate to get it back gauranteed)...switching was the only way they would give me a better rate and like you i was paying 11/or 12 cets a min...
This is not internet phone its through my house phone land line.
good luck

Hola!

I wanted to say that I use www.12Voip.com to call to Colombian landlines for free. It is the same company that owns voipbuster.com , but better rates. I also use www.VoipStunt.com and www.VoipDiscount.com since they have different rates with different features and owned by the same company also!

Check what the 3 offer for your needs.
