Internet bank charges

I've an account with Davivienda and I just realised that they charge 700 pesos for all online transactions? (and 1200 if you phone them??) Do all banks in Colombia charge this?

I hate that, every time you log on to the Davivienda site to checkout your account they'll charge you $700.
Is there a Bank that doesn't charge for online access????????????????

HSBC 6500 per month account fee. No charge to log on and check your account position.

There is some kind of online bill payment option, but it hasn't worked for me so far. Flaky.

que nota!

This is a real rip off, banks back home would never have any account holders if they charged for transacting online. What really gets up my nose is that we are saving the banks a fortune by transacting online (I even have to pay when I do an online direct debit!!!) I feel like going into a branch and taking up a teller's time rather than paying them 700 pesos, or even queuing up wasting their time just to ask them my balance!! It's the old story of principle rather than principal.

On the basis of the replies so far, it really smacks of a cartel, what it will take is one bank to enter the market and offer free online banking, this will get the others to change their tune sharpish. It will need a big international bank though who don't need to join the Colombian banking cartel. Anyone got any info on Citibank's charges??

Banks anywhere will charge whatever they can get away with. Competition in the US has done its job. I wonder if competition will be allowed in Colombia in my lifetime? It wouldn't be very difficult to compete very effectively with Colombian banks.
