Internet Acccess in Medellin Apartments?

Hi:

I plan on coming down to Medellin for 3 to 6 months, probably starting in June.

I work on my computer around 10 hours a day and absolutely need to rent a place with high speed internet. I was in Cartagena a couple of years ago and had a dial-up connection that was incredibly slow.

So I'm wondering - what speed internet access can I expect to find in Medellin furnished apartments - and what will the approximate cost be?

Thanks,

Colin

Internet speed Hey Colin,

Internet speed is good in Medellin. I have my own appartment with 700 up/256 down. Which is the highest at this point i think. Some furnished appartments come with broadband internet some don't. I guess most of them will have the 200/128 connection. You just have to look around i guess.

Price of 500/128 connection is aprox 100.000 cop (including Vat). And most of them have a one year obligation if you want to do it yourself.

I was in a House in Poblado With Super Speed. They are using Cable Internet..in Poblado and was very fast..comparing to Miami too..AT 3mb down and very slow up though..

Well you can get here in Miami 5mb down.for an extra 10.00 per month..
but don't need it.

HolandaPaisa do you have Cable Internet or DSL...

Was looking at pricing Telecom Internet too..which is Telefonica but assuming that is DSL service..I rather have Cable Internet Service.

EPM I have internet and cable television from EPM. Prices start from 64.900 COP(Ex VAT) for 200/128 connection including all 70 normal TV channels and VOIP (although that service is not really great, but sometimes usefull. I have the 700/256 connection which is 109.900 Cop (ex VAT). With the higher plans you can get a free wireless modem/router

HolandaPaisa EPM has the telephone/cable/internet package for 140.000 per month..Confused here EPM uses the cable internet service and what about Telecom with DSL are they quicker..Telecom is Telefonica..

Why is Cable so slow in Medellin and also confused the telephone service goes in the phone jack but is VOIP..In Miami Cable telephone you have another box and your phone goes into the box..Unless the apartment buildings the phonejack in the wall can be used for VOIP and regular phone service..which I assume is Telecom..(Telefonica)

Little help..

EPM has cable internet and television and VoIP telephone (you use your computer to call or a Voip telephone, but is not very good quality). I have heard that they also offer a package with cable internet+television+fixed phone service (as EPM also offers fixed phone services in Medellin). Have a look at their website.

700/256 is the highest connection as far as i know. I am not sure about other providers like telefonica. You can buy a box to connect your normal telephone to the internet and use it as a voip telephone.

CTG Costavision in CTG (http://www.costavision.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=24&Itemid=90&lang=) offers 1300K now. Generally MDE has better everything.
