interesting ways to make a buck in Colombia

Hi. I'm trying to put together something for my class on interesting, innovative ways to earn money that aren't generally seen in the US. I saw a movie, based in Bogota, in which a guy made a living with a chair strapped to his back and he carried people for a fee. Is this common in Bogota? Can you think of any other interesting things like that that I could research? If you have links or pictures, that would be great.

Thanks,
Constancia

For awhile we had a going concern renting the handicapped out to beg in 8 hour shifts.. "Rent-A-Cripple" did pretty good there back in it`s day.

I just saw a documentary where a guy made pharmaceuticals in a makeshift production facility in Bogota. I guess he made alot of money until he got caught.

I saw a guy with a sign acting as a human traffic light in Cali. He only had a stop and go, no yellow.

I heard a guy begging for money, but he is always in a rush, telling people to hurry up, and help him, by not wasting his time. The Movie Constanza saw was "La sombra del caminante". Filmed in Bogotá.

Thanks, Webmanco. You are right, that was the movie I saw (bought---wish I'd've rented it).

The cuy betting looks pretty interesting. I am guessing you choose which bowl you think he'll enter? Do you have any details, like betting amounts, etc.?

And the ones at the bottom---statues? Do they move? What do they do, exactly?

To me the rather common sight of a man with a typewriter typing official documents on the sidewalks around official buildings. The variety of "Bicycles" that are used for commercial activities in Chia is amazing. From asados andgrills to furniture shops and snack bars.

In India they have ear cleaners who will do it for you in the park. In Angola they had the kids who you had to pay to not slash your tyres when you parked near the discos. Or the dudes in Thailand who breed / catch the cockroaches to sell fried at the street markets.

Apparently, some girls in Medellin provide a bit of nookie, for nothing more, than some food, drink, and taxi fare. This service is only available to gringos.
