Insurance

I remember reading something about someone living or moving to Colombia and becoming a Resident. I know there was a question about life insurance too. I was wondering if there are any websites around for life insurance in Colombia. I have not had much luck finding anything.
Thanks-Dan

Insurance I don´t know about websites but there are many colombian insurance companies, try googling their names:
Some of the largest are:
- Suramericana de Seguros
- Delima Marsh
- Colseguros
- Seguros Bolivar

Why ?????? Dan, I am curious why you want to buy Life Ins. in Colombia. I suspect you are not a Colombian. Your explanation may help me make a decision also.

Dan's Insurance Dear Dan:

I think that you might have a problem finding compairable limits of coverage in Colombia as you might find with USA coverage (if you are looking for higher limits). As an example I could never find any substantial liability coverage for my automobiles compaired to USA coverage like US$100,000 or US$1,000,000.

I could not find it offered (maybe it is but I couldn't find it). Finally someone walked me through the potenial exposure from a accident in Colombia and I became less concerned with higher limit coverage. Life insurance is a different matter and I too an interested in other peoples responses.

For better or worse after a couple years I relaxed and carry just the government mandated liability minimums for non-primary vechiles and self insure all other risks including fire, theft, collision, glass, and vandalism or underinsured liability risks.

Over a five year period I have suffered no real problems doing this (more lucky than smart) except my girlfriend had about six accidents while perfecting the art of driving and repairs in Colombia (as someone said) are not expensive.

Insurance reason Santiago,
Your right I'm not colombian. I'm just a 6'5" skinny gringo. The reason I'm inquiring about insurance is for my girlfriend. I found out recently that she is pregnant and I was just curious about what kind of coverages were available to her as she said she doesn't have any. I don't really expect the same type of coverages as here in the US but I have heard somewhere that at times, its not all too bad.

Call AIG in Cali. I guess this number on the business card is still good (2) 666-2932 for life insurance. Same rules apply for health as in the USA. If she is pregnant NOW it is a pre-existing condition and not covered. I know in most of the major cities, Bogotá, Medellin, Cali, etc.,etc., just about everyone is covered. However, not knowing all the facts it is had to make a guess. BTW, in general if you are a gringo working in the USA you could likely pay for the expenses without taking a big hit in the wallet.
A la orden,

Gator

Thanks for the info Gator. and everyone else. I'm just wondering what would be available. I'm going to try going down to Bogota next wed.(23rd) so that we can talk to each other in person. Telephone and email helps but I think it's better to be there with her. This would also be the first time to Colombia without having to work too. So long as I don't run into anyone from work, it should be a good trip.
Take care everyoe-Dan

Found websites for those listed above and my girlfriend is calling around to find something. From what I can tell, anything that she gets will only provide partial coverage which I think is better than not being able to help at all. She and I are hoping all comes out well.
Thanks for the help
Daniel
