Inquiry about meeting my gf

Want advice about a Colombian citizen(my gf), traveling from Colombia to Canada to USA(my residence). She believes it would be easier for her to get to Canada, which could be true.....however, would it still be difficult for her to come visit me in the USA. I have tried to convince her to come directly to USA....no success so far! I live near Canada and would be no problem for me to go to Canada and meet her there. But I want her to come visit me in the USA. Any suggestions how to resolve this?

All she needs is a valid U.S. Visa to enter the U.S.

Well... coming to Canada? Unless she has some kind of university degree program and an invite from a Canadian University.... her chances of coming here are slim to none.

I have consulted a well known immigration lawyer and was told I either have to go to Colombia and live with her for a year ( and of course document everything to prove living common-law), or go to Colombia and marry her. This will also require an application for a visa that could take up to a year or more.

I think it is easier for Colombians to get tourist/visitors visas to the US than Canada, so unless she will be in Canada for other purposes, then you are hooped, and even then she'd still need a tourist/visitors Visa to visit you in the US.

Might as well go right for the US tourist Visa. If she can get to Canada becuase she has been travelling to Canada or elsewhere for legitimate purposes and returning to Colombia, then her chances are far better for getting a US tourist/visitors Visa.

The odds of a US visa are slim and none. My mother in law has been turned down 2 times and we only want her to visit us for a few weeks. Unless your gf is independently wealthy so there is little chance she would not return to colombia, its not likely she will be getting a visa.

You're right, dude. It's a crap shoot. I know Colombians who have absolutely nothing, no family, no property, no job, no nothing, they got tourist visas. I know others who have travelled all over the world, Europe, Australia, South America and who have loads of property etc., they got denied. You pay your money and you take your chances.

Really john stark? It doesn't surprise me that it's that bad. I'll bet it depends more on how much you bribe the Bogota officials in the Canadian embassy.

Romanadi1, I hear nowadays it's harder to get a tourist visa to Canada than it is to the USA, so don't get your hopes up.

My advice...find a new girlfriend. If you have to travel over 50 miles for any chick is a time committment. why would anyone be serious about that is beyond me.

Love and happiness!

Maybe it's because I am Colombian, but I have never had a girlfriend in Colombia ask me for money. My wife sometimes asks for little stuff, but only now that we are married. I think the most she's ever asked for was $15.000 COP to get her hair done while I was at the dentist next door.

I've had girlfriends ask me for money before. Even had friends ask me for money. Most of the time though they would invite me to invite them out. Although since I've been married I can't even give my wife a lousy 500 pesos without her paying me back.
