sloopskipper says on Jul 14, 2008, 15:02:

The French give a medal for people being stupid, and walking into harm's way, against advice?

That is a slap in the face to any heroes who have deserved that medal.

sloopskipper for the French Ingrid is survivor an strong woman who suffered a lot, they have been fighting and waiting for her released since she was kidnapped. this is how they show how much they appreciated her. And anyway how this affect us to tell you the truth the more she stay in the spotlight the better for the hostages, she needs to used all this media attention to bring unawareness of the situation of the hostages that are still in the jungle, criticizing her is not helping anyone.

sloopskipper says on Jul 14, 2008, 16:12:

Kat, I agree with you, in part, and I do admire Ingrid’s strength to endure what she did. But, the fact seems to remain that she got herself into that situation due to her own stupidity, or arrogance. From what I have read, she was totally aware of the risks in that area, and was warned not to go there, but chose to throw all caution to the wind, thinking herself some sort of invincible “Joan of Arc ".

My God, look at the video! You can see it in the smirk of Raul Reyes, when she kept repeating “no more kidnappings ". You can almost read in his eyes, “Sweetheart you’re gonna be in chains tonight! ".

I think medals like the French Legion of Honor (and the U.S. Congressional Medal of Honor) are usually reserved for people who have committed some heroic act for their country. What heroic act was committed for France (which was not even really her country)? None.

Maybe, going unarmed, into the jungles where there are known kidnappers, sitting down with them, and getting kidnapped? In my little pea-brain, that doesn’t qualify.

But I do totally agree that her current notoriety might help those still captive, but I suspect that she and the French government will soon find other things to worry about, except perhaps a book, play, or a movie, to "maybe" help those still captive. Delusions of the presidency?

Martyr yes, heroine, “I " don’t think so.

sloop i don't know i can't predict the future but i do hope whatever she does will help the remaining hostages. At the moment we can just only speculate about the future

Rikito says on Jul 15, 2008, 06:59:

Now that Ingrid is free and the frogs are drooling all over themselves with all of the patting on the back; you neither see nor hear anymore activates about the French in Colombia. And mommy dearest will make certain that Ingrid will never return to her country of birth, her country of citizenship. This crap about her dual French citizenship is a sham and was an honorary citizenship given to her because of her then philanderizing French diplomat husband who is no longer a diplomat…just a dip! When you read the French newspapers they refer to her as being of French-Colombian citizenship and not Colombian-French citizenship as it should read.

This is all too bad of course because I think that she could have been a great force for the positive side of Colombia. I think if she ran for the Presidency she might have a good chance of winning, but with the book, the movie, the appearances, and mommy dearest in control, Ingrid will soon fade from the Colombian limelight.

It is not life that matters, but the journey.
