She had plenty of time to develop the storyline ín her head tied up to a tree in the jungle. Once you have the story all figured out in your mind the book can be written ín a couple of months. She had already written one book so she knows the routine.I'm sure she didn't have any time finding a publisher for her book either; that¨'s the nightmere of every writer who is not established yet. I will buy her second book as soon as I can get hold of it.

I attended a lecture over the weekend with Consuelo González de Perdono and Gustavo Moncayo ("El caminante por la paz"). One of the attendees asked González about Ingrid. González said she lived in captivity with Ingrid for eight months and is now perplexed about Ingrid's post-release politics, especially her statements about Uribe. Apparently, Ingrid has changed direction quite a bit.

If you ever have an opportunity to see these two speak, do it. They were on a tour of Washington, Boston, NYC and Minneapolis. Gustavo tells a very moving and powerful story about his son that he hasn't seen in 11 years. There weren't very many dry eyes when he was finished.

Is the son still alive? Any proofs? (I'm crying already....I don't think I would be able to listen to him to talk about his son without howling like a lonely coyote all the time)

Gustavo thinks so but he hasn't heard anything recently.

I don't know about howling coyotes, but they had to switch translators because the first one started crying. Consuelo was much less outwardly passionate. She told anecdotes about the jungle critters but not too much that was deeply personal except when she spoke about the death of her husband and the birth of her grandchild while she was in captivity. I don't know how either of them do it - telling these terrible stories several times a day to different audiences.

I have always said, she should stay in France.

And the ones worried about her wanting to be president of Colombia, can rest. She did something very dumb once, she learned her lesson.

What a money grubbing self promoting auto indulgent bint. What about the other guys that got rescued? what about the other things that colombia could spend its money in in lieu of rescuing politicians that wilfully placed themselves in danger?

"What a money grubbing self promoting auto indulgent bint."

She's not making money promoting someone else's book-that is nonsense.

" What about the other guys that got rescued?"

Many had been in captivity for 10 years or more and if you ever saw the stills/videos of them you could see they were in poor health both mentally and physically.
It remains to be seen if they can truly integrate themselves into everyday society-or if they remain broken on the fringes like so many kidnap victims.
Also Betancourt is a literate individual-the captive Army Officers and Policemen somewhat less so.

"what about the other things that colombia could spend its money in in lieu of rescuing politicians that wilfully placed themselves in danger?"

You're a ways behind the times here-that debate was over the moment the captives were freed.

Here the perception is that Ingrid was a famous person with political aspiration kidnapped by the FARC. A lot of them never heard of here before the kidnapping.

She has made some bad decisions and should not even be running a hotdog stand let alone involved with a country's decisions on any level. This is my own opinion and I have not asked others here if they think she would make a good political leader. So I don't know what that feed back would be.

I just hope she can become a spokesperson and keep the plight of the secuestrados in international view and perhaps even help garner outside political support.

I must be very selfish, but when she got kidnapped, I was reading the last pages of her book. It was a big, huge impact to me, I prayed for her well being, but, since that very moment I also thought of the day she would be released, and would write a book about her experiences, because I knew she was a brilliant person, and a wonderful writer.
