I am planning to move to Bogota, Colombia in the springtime or early summer. I am from Toronto, Canada and have lived and worked here all of my life. I worked in Computers for the last 10 years at Bank of Montreal, and also IBM here in Toronto.
I love Colombia, but I need help with contacts, companies, and the best places to apply for Computer IT Related Employement.
I thank you all in advance for any help that can be provided.
Have a great Day,
Ricky
Toronto, Canada.

Lionheart says on Jan 4, 2005, 13:29: same here I'll be moving to Cali. My experience so far is that looking for a job online is sheer impossible, no matter what kind of job you are looking for. I have read about a few exceptions here, but in general, they want to see you first before even considering you. You can round up a list of companies online, but then visit them when you are there. Chances to get hired are very good, but probably not for the reasons you would expect. Colombia has their own breed of fine young engineers. It is regarded a feature to employ gringos or other foreigners, demonstrating that the company is world-class. I was told it is the same for schools ... they want native language teachers to impress the parents to get more students. It may seem a risk to go to Colombia on cold calling for jobs, but if you have a financial buffer for a few months you should be fine.

Ricky_Jackson says on Jan 5, 2005, 08:23: Thanks Lionheart Thanks for the information Lionheart. That sounds like good advice to apply in person while in Bogota. Was it really difficult for you to land work in Cali? What will you be doing down there? As you know Im a Computer Professional, and IT World is my game.
