information on the new marriage laws in UK and Certificate of Approval

Hi

The laws in the UK, changed in Feb this year, as you now have to apply to the Home office for a certificate of approval before you can sending off the application forms for marriage to a registrar to organise a wedding

Has anyone gone through this procedure to get married to a colombiano/a in the UK?

Any tips on filling in the form it's a bit of a nightmare, I would really like some help on this.

If they say no,I know you cannot appeal, but can you apply again?

Yes I know a immigration solicitor would help, but I haven't much money right now, if anyone has a little info they are willing to share I'd appreciate it

here are some general links to Home office website and their marriage forms

I have not gone through the process but investigated this a little while ago. Mainly they want to see the fiances visa to verify that she is legally permitted to get married in the UK.

The new rules are very simple If you are a foreigner and legally resident in the UK then you don't need permission to marry. If the foreigner does not have a resident visa (Indefinate leave to remain) stamped in his/her passport, or a fiance visa issued in his/her country of birth then they need to apply to the Home Office for permission to marry.
The new rules were introduced to prevent forigners marrying in the UK for immigration purposes and are, to my knowledge, very effective. The Home Office does not give those certificates without very compelling reasons.

Forgot to mention that your best course of action would be to visit your local Citizens Advice Bureau. http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/ It's free and they will point you in the right direction for free immigration advice.
You can also get free professional immigration advice here http://www.iasuk.org/
