It begs the question- how concerned will DAS be with your phone calls and e-mails?

I know the following article is several years old, but if official willingness to act hasn't improved exponentially since it was first published, I'd have my doubts:

Which is about one of the most distressing things I've ever read.

That story is Eight years old. From when Colombia was in the throws of the worst kidnapping and violence in ages and when all the Colombian law enforcement agencies were under-resourced.

I'm willing to bet that the DAS and other Colombian authorities are more willing and more capable of dealing with that kind of crime now.

People bitch about Plan Colombia all the time, and there are plenty of things about it I don't like, but one thing I do know is that a good chunk of Plan Colombia money in the last 6 years went to professionalizing the Colombian police and to training the Gaula.

ABSTRACT
Objective Identifying the main aetiological agents of sexually transmitted infections
(STI) in a high-risk population from the city of Montería, Colombia.
Methodology The population consisted of 69 sex-workers (high-risk group) and 16
housewives (low-risk group) living in the city of Montería. Specimens were cultured
by standard microbiological methods and by the AMPLICOR CT/NG molecular
technique.
Results Patients were aged 18-44 (26.1 average age). It was determined that 17,4%
of the high-risk population were positive for G. vaginalis, 15,9 % for C. trachomatis,
4,3 % for N. gonorrhoeae and 2,9 % for T. vaginalis and Candida albicans and, in the
low-risk population, 56,3 % for G. vaginalis, 12,5 % for C. trachomatis, 6,3 % for N.
gonorrhoeae and 12,5 % for C. albicans. It was found that 70 % of the sex-workers
had 5-10 sexual relationships per week, 10 % 11-15 per week and 20 % 16-20 per
week (average above 1 000 annual partners). 15,4 % of the sex-workers did not use
protection during their sexual relationships.
Conclusions The high rates of infection found in the populations studied presume a
high risk of transmission, making it a priority to intervene in these groups to prevent
the spread of HIV and STI.

Man Tequila says on May 25, 2007, 20:23:

Such a small study has too little power to show significance. But it does imply that the risk of STIs (independent of presumed low and high risk groups in Montería) is high, i.e. does not differ much between housewives and sex workers. If this study is true, all sex in Monteria should be considered high risk. Use your head, use protection in Colombia!

Nice to see you CaritadeAngel. Breath of fresh air around here.

I'm not surprised that housewives and sex workers have similar rates of promiscuity if most folks don't use protection and people sleep around.

Interesting study in this week's Economist showing extra martial affairs by country. Wonder where Colombia would fit in.

Cali2005 says on May 26, 2007, 08:04:

USA ICE AGENTS TARGETING CHATS INTERNATIONAL In the USA many people are being thrown into jail for 10 years just for having conversations of sexual nature with cops posing as minors. That's right just chatting, and sometimes internaional travelers connecting in an airport inside the USA on the way to South America or China are arrested at the airport.

That is correct. You can be put in jail for 10 years for just chatting with minors. As morphus mentioned below, "guys that get thrown in jail go into graphic detail with the undercover official about what they plan to do.." There are people that have tried to fight it and not take plea bargins, and they have received 10 years in prison. Even if you think sex with minors is legal in a particular country! Know the laws, not the URBAN MYTHS. You can be chatting with someone and it can be a cop in the USA.

Look up the ICE Immigration and Customs bulletins and you will see this is an international law enforcement operation they are actively enforcing now. It can be emails through dating sites, or chats through an online dating website. The point is, many of these sites operate in the United States. That gives the USA ICE (immigration and customs enforcement) juristiction i guess.

This is a relatively political and popular move in the united states to proactively go after potential internet "preditors". No website is anonymous. Nothing is completely secure or anonymous when you think it is.

A final note, many people think that going out with a woman/ young woman over 15 is legal. While you can ask many Colombians they will tell you 16 and 17 year olds are no problem. Well that is a common urban myth as we say in the USA. If you ask a Colombian Prosecutor it is against the law to have sex with a minor under the age of 18 Then again if you really love a 17yr old then just get married, and that would probably solve your problems, (until you get divorced.)

Paper Cedulas (Colombian Identification Cards)? Why do they still exist? Security? Problems?
Uribe, Colombia, DAS, or somebody fix this....So, finally i would like to say what is the deal with the temporary cedulas? Anyone can make those temporary cedulas with a type writter. If anything can be done with the law here it would be to get rid of those paper cedulas. My first cedula was plastic, like a credit card with a computer chip. I renewed it and they gave me a piece of paper with my finger print and my photo glued to it with elmers glue. DAS told me to come back in 3 months for my official ID. LOL.

Why is that a problem? Many young girls loose and renew their cedulas, just like cellphones. I know some girls at the universities that are a bit absent minded, and tend to have thier purses stolen a few times a year it seems. Paper cedulas with out plastic covers? Why?

In all reality, if i like a woman here, I ALWAYS MEET THE FAMILY. 1)SECURITY REASONS, 2) A girl with a good family relationship is less likely to have serious problems, 3) Just as anywhere go with your common sense judgement (if you have any)....

Finally you will meet some really nice families in Colombia.

Nobody cares except you. Anyway, I never posted pictures of girls naked or in sexually provocative positions. Even if I did it still would'nt matter. Why would I have to call the Colombian police?

Monpirri, what happened to your friend Rollitabella? Are you still kissing her ass?

Cali2005 says on May 26, 2007, 08:22:

Screwing Around while married or not Well in the USA you just get married and divorced every 3 years, and in other countries you stay married because its really looks bad to the family to have a divorce.

Another note, in the usa people just dont get married like they do in other countries.

I would like to see the statistical chart that really shows what dogs people are....

How many boyfriend & girlfriends have been cheated on ..........
hmmmmm..........

hmm.... 1000% (some people cheat on the other one 10 times or more)

Relationships sometimes have a good friendship and sex, and when they have everything that is hard to come by. Men and women are sexual by nature. We are just dogs with big brains, and inhibitions.

Viva Medellin

CaritadeAngel says on May 26, 2007, 08:28:

And Rubito is right Not that I have a penis, of course, (or the temptation to tell him to suck it would be almost too much), but that men who have sex with other men are the vectors of HIV in most cases, and a monogamous woman is at risk if her partner is the one screwing around.

The main body of the study showed, of course, that housewives had a lower incidence of STI than the sex-worker: you can Google the study if you are interested in reading the paper. I agree about the sample size. The Durex study doesn't look at enough countries: sample size too small. They have obviously never been to Cuba: shame about the embargo, I imagine with the divorce rate at 60%, they'd be doing pretty well. Ah well.

Turkey is "Muslim" in the same way that Denmark is "Christian" - nominally. ( And Turkey is, of course, a destination for female sex-tourists from Europe).

Actually i respect dogs more than people My dogs stuck with me even after my divorce! No alimony, No child support. Dogs are highly recommended over children!

Now as not to get distracted, Child Prostitution is a serious problem, and while colombia has many economic problems this should not be a solution for starving children and families.

Give money to UNICEF, and help desperate families in Colombia. They have done some really great work in Colombia. Economic hardship is one of the leading causes pushing young women into prostitution. Pimps should not be tolerated at all! Minors are weak, and people that take advantage of children for personal gain are sick people that should be punished.

Prostitution is one of the oldest trades, and with poverty covering the globe it will not go away. Look at the roots of the problems. Build a stronger global community.

Why does anyone need to have sex with a minor in Colombia? This country is full of beautiful women of LEGAL age.

Viva Medellin

morphus says on May 26, 2007, 10:01:

There are programs in Colombia that help the homeless and prostitutes. Unfortunately, a lot of them don't want to be helped. They don't want to work a straight job or go to school. I don't feel sorry for prostitutes in Colombia. They are taking the easy way out. They waste the money on partying, new clothes, drugs and breast implants. If you people think they are doing it because they are starving, you have a lot to learn. I feel sorry for the girls, and Colombians in general that are working hard. There are girls bagging groceries in a store 12 hours a day just to make a few pesos. Yet everybody feels sorry for some ho that spreads her legs, doing what she likes to do anyway and getting a paid for it.

Cerealkiller says on May 26, 2007, 10:08:

Keywords: "of sexual nature"...and "minors", not simple "chatting"

IS NOT THE SAME AS:

"That is correct. You can be put in jail for 10 years for just chatting with minors." Note: "for just chatting"....

Did you happen to leave some verbiage out of the second sentence here....like "sexual nature"??

if you chat with a minor and have a conversation about futbol, noone will be knocking on your door or waiting for you at the airport.....

btw, it is not only ICE that conducts those operations...any law enforcement agency can do it....and do it they do! jajaja...
