Info on Isla De Rosario

I am planning on going out to Cartagena in July and was looking for some feedback on Isla De Rosario. Specifically I want to stay out there for 1 or 2 nights and want to know which Island or Hotel out there is the most romantic. I have gone to some web sites and have found quite a few places to stay, but I was hoping to get some first hand knowledge from people on this site as well.

Thanks Carl

Isla Pirata CArl,
I would highly reccomend Isla Pirata. It is part of the chain outside of Cartagena. Inexpensive and all inclusive. My wife and I spet three nights there about a year ago. Very romantic. Our cabana was only three steps from our private lagoon. DAy trips to other islands, good food and secluded. #What more can I say!!!

kirk has it right... there is no other choice...
it is very small compared to other resorts,
you can snorkel all the way around,
you will see the third little mermaid,
eat tons of lobster, and burn your butt.
take a nite ride to the laguna encanta to see
the phosphoresence.sleep with the waves....

3 members from Colroado First congrats on your wife!! I may have questions for you in the future concerning VISA stuff, but right now I am still just enjoying just getting to know Martica and her family more.

Anohter thing a bit off the subject of Cartagena, Juanes will be in Denver towards the end of March, some friends of mine from Colombia and I are going as is the other member from this site with his wife. Perhaps we could all meet for a bite to eat before the concert and swap stories about Colombia. Feel free to drop me a line and we can sort out the details more in private.

hey kirk... did you work out the arepas con huevo??

shit, the oldguy couldn't fly so fast as you,
so he only went every 2 months for 3 years,
and now, it's la commandantes turn, whenever there is a crisis.

anyway, you guys should invite juanes to your table,
and then, send him north......to whistler.

Ahhhh arepas de huevos Oldgring,
Sure did. They're not quite as good as in Colombia, but pretty close. My wife tried on several occasions and always came away frustrated. The secret was using more oil so the arepas puffed up enough to insert the egg. No I'm afraid I will grow old and fat eating these every day!!!

No, BArranquilla She is from BArranquilla, but costana. I"m already old, but with these, I will be fat. She is small and thin, but the American diet may catch up with her.

oldbongo says on Jan 16, 2005, 11:57:

ahhhh... thats maybe why the arepa is not familiar to her...
it's a cartagena speciality...good luck, the receta rocks...

mi commandante gained immediatly on exposure to cold air and
northern food, but with summer coming,we go humping and fishing a lot
so the cuerpo flacacita will reappear.

San Pedro de Majagua Another option is San Pedro de Majagua, it is more upmarket place, but very paradisiac. It is part of Santa Clara Hotel, which is the one of the best hotels in Cartagena.

Islas off Cartagena The main problem with the Islands off Cartagena is that the Goverment has a claim over them.

Basically when Colombia became independant from Spain it was written into the constitution that all un-habited islands belonged to the goverment.
The Islands off Cartagena were not un-habited, which is easily proved by the history books etc.

Isla Del Rosario has the same problem, but the last I heard was the goverment were going to give up their claim for a small rental charge.

Possibly Isla Baru is in the same boat and the goverment will or is doing a deal.

Uribe has pushed this through, because the uncertainy is stopping development, if the goverment give up on the silliness, they will end up making plenty more taxs directly and in-directly off tourism in the area.
