IN REMEBERANCE

So there I was this date 6 years ago walking down Broadway and 23rd st. heading to my doctor’s office suffering from kidney stone pains. All of the sudden I hear a loud KABOOOOOOM followed with an eerie rumble. .
“Chit, what the fuk is that? I keep walking and a few minutes later, another KABOOOOM but this time I see the sky slowly getting covered with a light grayish dust coming from a few blocks south. Cars heading north were all cover with dust. I continued walking clueless to what was going on, until I see people gathered outside an electronics store and all channels are tune in to the burning Twin Towers, the rest is history.
I was here before they were built and I was here when they went down, but never once entered those buildings, something I very much regret.

I know you know this, but I would share it also, many people from many countries died in the attack, about or more than 90 from other countries.
Univision.com - Noticias, reported in their initial report of 9/17/01
"Aumenta el numero de desaparecidos de los paises de America Latina." They had a list from Latin America: Argentina, Brasil, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras and Colombia with a very large number on said list!

Other countries not reported on the above report: England, France, Jamaica, Japan, Filipines and Netherlands.

elmodefoque says on Sep 11, 2007, 08:55:

Will Jimeno (born November 26, 1967) is a Port Authority Police officer of Colombian origin who survived the World Trade Center attack on September 11th. He was buried under the rubble for nearly 12 hours, but survived, along with fellow Port Authority officer John McLoughlin.

Jimeno, a rookie cop assigned to the Port Authority Bus Terminal, saw the shadow of the airplane that seconds later hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center. He rode to the WTC site with 20 other Port Authority police officers in a commandeered bus.[1]

Jimeno and other Port Authority officers, led by McLoughlin, were trapped under the Concourse between the twin towers by the collapse of the South Tower. Only Jimeno and McLoughlin survived, with another officer surviving the initial collapse, but died when the North Tower collapsed.

A USA Today account observed:

Sometimes they yelled for help. But mostly the 46-year-old sergeant, a 21-year veteran, and the 32-year-old [sic] rookie talked intimately, sometimes revealing personal things — about kids, families, feelings — that they had never shared with anyone. Jimeno asked the sergeant to deliver a message over the radio to his wife, Allison, who was seven months pregnant. They had received no response earlier, but he thought maybe their radio call would be picked up on a police tape recording. "Attention," McLoughlin announced. "Officer Jimeno requests that his baby girl be named Olivia." His wife had liked the name. He hadn't been so sure. Now, as he prepared to die, he wanted to think of his baby girl, Olivia.[2]

The two men were subsequently located and extricated. Both were severely injured and required months of hospitalization.

Jimeno's entombment and rescue were portrayed in the 2006 Oliver Stone film World Trade Center by Michael Peña. The film received widespread critical praise, but has received criticism for not accurately portraying the rescue of McLoughlin and Jimeno. The film was criticized for incorrectly identifying the personnel who dug out the two men, omitting key participants in the rescue, and understating the amount of time and effort required as well as the danger and difficulty involved in extricating the two men. [3]

Two stories Elmo:

First, when 9/11 happened I think we were all shocked. I had a small American flag that I put up outside my house. I went to the store and tried to purchase a larger one. They were all sold out. You could look up and down my street in Canada and you could so many American flags it was breathtaking. 9/11 changed the we do things in the world. As a Canadian, I and everyone I knew were saddened by the ordeal.
2nd Story: I personally know a man a fireman who survived 9/11. He lost many of his friends on that day. He watched them fall as the floor gave in, in front of him. He ended up in the hospital while most his friends died. He is on a disability and is living here in Colombia. He suffers from allot things attributed to 9/11. He survived but he is haunted by that day and his life will never be the same. He is a real hero to me.
Thanks Elmo for the post. I hope this thread survives.

Of course you know what I saw. I couldn't stop watching for a while. Then, I got so depressed I drove off of Fort Myers Beach and over to Sanibel Island. I just sat on the sand and pondered. Later that evening I drove into Fort Myers, and the US government building had all the streets shut down around it and SWAT types around it. But there were hardly any cars on the road. It was very eery, almost like something out of a movie.

No,NO, NO,, that is NOT CORRECT and had NOTHING to do with why the towers collapsed. The fires from the plane impact damaged the inadequate fireproofing on the floor support joists and fires from the fuel weakened the structural steel on the affected floors producing a "pancake" effect.

Anyone who watched the collapse on TV saw the effect. Well,, except for Rosie McDonald.

The Bush administration used what happened on 9/11 as an excuse to invade Iraq, even though Iraq had nothing to do with that event. Anyone who has read the PNAC document now knows that the neocons had planned the Iraq invasion as far back as 1997 (http://www.americanfreepress.net/12_24_02/America_Pearl_Harbored/ameri...).

I recently read "The Looking Tower" by Lawrence Wright. Basically, the CIA had the intel that Al Qaeda guys were in the US and planning something big but didn't want to share that info with the FBI, who could actually arrest people, because, A) The CIA hated the FBI guy in charge of the Al Qaeda file, who apparently was a bit of a bully and a prick, and B) The CIA was afraid to "compromise intelligence sources" by sharing what they knew.

Gringoloid. I am not a chemist nor a physicist. But, I know fire can be made hotter with the addition of oxygen with an ample supply of fuel source. I know people for thousands of years have made steel, melted steel, and produced steel with simple coal fires, stoked by the addition of oxygen. Can you cut steel with burning jet fuel like an acetylene torch? Of course not. But can steel be weakened and caused to fail under extreme loads and stress, caused by the loss of several supports due to severing, and extreme heat? Obviously yes. If a jet's exhaust burned at 700 degrees, my oven could almost handle that. Why do jets have ceramic exhaust ports, instead of steel, if it was a measly 700 degrees? You wanna bet me that the exhaust I see coming out of the F 15 fighter jets that fly over my house almost everyday is 700 degrees? There are blue and white cones of heat ... and their fuel is essentially the same as any commercial jet. Anybody that is in the "know" can back me up with this.

With respect to Colombia's history post-independence up to the cocaine bonanza, I disagree. Using nothing more than rifles and machetes the country has proven itself quite capable of slaughtering hundreds of thousands of its own citizens without any "help" from the outside. To be fair, many other countries have done the same, including the U.S. The exceptional thing about Colombia is that there have been so many internal conflicts and the one they have right now is going on 60 years if you start counting at 1948. Oh well, they've got nothing on old Europe...

The number of fatalities in the U.S. on September 11th does offer an interesting perspective. Even with a much improved security situation, Colombia - with 1/7th of the population - continues to lose somewhere in the neighborhood of 3000 lives per year as a direct result of the current conflict (military, FARC, ELN, AUC).

Where did you get your info? I got it from the must trusted source by the hispanics in the US and the most watched by 'some' Colombians. Univision is not my cup of tea, anyway I've scanned two pages which confirm the death tolls of the countries mentioned above and I'll be glad to send them to you, and if you wish you can post them here.
