In Medellin and ... melancholic

Just arrived, and settled in an apartment in the laureles area.

Strangely, I feel melancholic and bored. Dont know what to do. May be it is because of the previosu two weeks in places like Cartagena that were noisy and, say, vibrant.

Will try the Park Lleras area.

Sen, weekday is Medellin is boring, especially at night.. Give Chris66 and shout via email and you two can hook up. Go to spigmace's place and get some local info. During day i recommend you do the touristy stuff like museums and such, that keep the boredom level down to a minimal. Once you start getting amiga contact, you'll have no time on your hand to be bored.

Check out obalisko(sp?), it's near where you're staying you can walk fr there or get a taxi. It fills up with people till 11pm, then people start going home. Medellin is not a party city during the week(unfortunately for tourist), it's critical to find something to do during the day and friends to meet at night. Otherwise, you'll be bored VERY QUICK. This advice is for MOST if not ALL COL cities.

If you´re bored... Sen, Las Palmitas up in Las Palmas is one of the only places that has a show and dancing every day. $8 mil taxi including tip from Laureles. Or come by my buisiness and I´ll give you a ride. No cover to boot and not that expensive. I will be going there wednesday nite around 9 or 10pm with some friends if you want to meet up.

Hey Spig... I'll be in town the end of September and be looking you up for the Jets game. I've heard your the football spot. Hopefully it'll workout where I can catch a DIM game at el estadio before hand. Any ways just a heads up.
Sen, I feel your pain. If you don't have a social circle Mon-Wed can be tough. Hey even with local friends it's tough because there in work weekday mode. Come Thurs, you'll find plenty of night life. In the meantime try to make some friends or take a mini trip to one of the outer pueblos. If you like hot weather go to Copacabana, Barbosa, San Jeronimo o Sta. Fe de Antioquia and stay in a Estadero with a nice pool. El Quimbaya en San Jeronimo is very nice and cheap last I went ~4 years ago.

Otherwise checkout the malls for movies or all the nice restaurants that are cheap by US standards, i.e. Sushi Light in el Tesoro Mall or Palos de Moguer in front of Oviedo, among others.

Enjoy.

sen, check out the Centro Colombo-Americano Library. (The library is free.) It has one of the largest (if not the largest) video collections in Colombia. Weeknights it's a happening place. You will meet lots of señoritas there who are taking English classes and want someone to practice with. :-)
