In Colombia, do the Colombian men always have to pay tab?

As a gringo I always had to pay the tab at nightclubs and restaurants.
Do Colombian men always pay the tab, and the Colombia women pay nothing?

Many times I would go out with a girl and her friends, so it became expensive, easily 160,000 tab at restaurant or nightclub.

Is the man expected to pay for everything movies, disco, etc.. in Colombia?

In the US if I go out with my buddies and a few girls, everyone chips in, no big deal.
But is Colombia different?

I guess, I will soon see the reality of not being a rich gringo in Colombia.

As I can longer afford to take a girl out to ZonaT or Parque93 at night , or even for lunch.
I will only be making about 1.5mil pesos a month for the coming year.

Maybe I will just end up being a lonely gringo in Colombia.

sounds like Sounds like your lady friend is inviting her buddies to take advantage of you.

Question: What type of 'real friends' would invite other friends along and run a big tab on you ?

Answer: Find some new lady friends or get used to dropping 160k everytime you dine out.

Good Luck.

Yes, no more big ticket meals and parties for amigas.
I will soon who my true amigas are.

What about if you go to a cafe/club with a bunch of local Colombian guys to hang on a Thursday night, the tab is split just like in the US?

The thing is, many of the Colombia people think the gringos are rich and should pick up the tab.

What things will a Colombian girl pay for on a date?

There must other great places in Bogota, other then expensive Zona T and Parque93. Or are they, the really only hip spots in town?

We are always told the American man must pay for the girl's taxi to/from a date. This can get quite expensive if the girl lives in Salitre Plaza area, 20,000 pesos r/t is typical.

Well mate, This is all your fault, you have to show the rules before going out, if they think you are a easy (dumb) guy, they will squeze you untill you do not have any money left, remember "no dar papaya", do not think that most Colombian do not have money, probably they have, but if there is a "marrano" where to take the money from, they will not hesitate to let you pay. I do, I do not like showing off to girls, I usually put my rules down, we pay half and half, that is what women wanted, sex equality and a agree with that. So, do not let your self be foolished by some abusive girls or guys. Look for people that respect you, I think your group of friends are not respecting you.

Yes, I was exposed too much to expat gringos in Medellin and Cali who have to pay for everything, and keep claiming they have so many girlfriends.

Now as I integrate into the working culture of Colombia, no longer a "rich gringo", I will learn the true Colombian woman. For example, If she cannot come up with 7000 pesos to see a movie with me at Cinemark, at least once in awhile, then drop her.

I think this topic was thoroughly worn out a couple of months ago. It's deja vu all over again!

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

My Colombiana pays the tab all the time. I give her the money and she pays the tab.

Good Advice GIB... I do the same. If a lady there invites her friends, I mention to the Waiter, "its two seperate tabs"(one for me and the lady( and a seperate one for her friends. I let them sort it out how they are going to pay when they get the Tab, its not my problem. A Colombian lady here in Miami who I invited out in the recent past decided to invite her Brother and sister in Law along, Fine I thought. Once inside the Taberna, I alerted the waiter to the Seperate Tabs deal. The Brother and Sister in law started off with two large Margaritas($8 a pop) then they switched to a Nice Bottle of Arguadiente, which by the way, they did a pretty fair job of polishing off by themselves. When it came time to leave, I called for the Tabs and payed mine, as the Lady and I walked out the door, the other two who ordered the fancy expensive drinks were scrambling for $$ to pay the Bill. LOL. Their Thirst was bigger then their wallet but they found the Money. I could have cared less if they had to wash dishes and glasses in the back kitchen to pay for their tab. They assumed the Gringo(who was a stranger to them btw) was going to pay; what a surprise they received! LOL. Last time I ever saw them haha.

Take it from a female..... They are definitly taking advantage of you.... I have no problem paying for my guy/ friends, it's only fair that things are shared!!! When I was in Medellin in December I picked up the tab a few times, after all, it's only fair and he did his share of picking up the tab as well. But there are definitely some gold-diggers out there, unfortunately giving all the other decent ladies a bad rep., but once you set it straight and let them know you won't be taken advantage of, you'll see who really is into you for you and who is only there for your $$$$$$
