hey everyone, its been awhile since i´ve been on this website. i know you guys are really helpful from my past experience here....but i have a large question that i know you guys here know the answer.....
well i have been living here in Cali for the last 6 months and im doing really good. i am an english teacher at an institute and doing what i enjoy. but im thinking of starting another form to make some money....i am thinking about importing motorcycles from the states to Cali. here theres a ton of motorcycles but i rarely see sport bikes here such as a susuki GSX-R, Yamaha R1, R6, Kawasaki ninja...etc...yea i know its not commom to ride these on a daily basis due to the handling and power but i know these bikes sell for expensive...i want to know what are the laws or information about importing motorcycles from the US to Colombia...also another import thing is the bikes are all used that i will bring here. my brother has a dealer license in the states so he buys everything cheap! also we want to buy salvage title bikes as well...so is there any kind of law that states for a used vehicle salvaged (re-built title) or not to be resold here in Colombia. i think i read something like that before but not sure...yea i know i must do lots of research in regards to doing anything like this but i also wanted to ask you guys here to see what you say....yea i also know that the taxes are really high on cars and bikes but isnt there a new law dealing importing/exporting for the US to Colombia?....if some say its not worth is (which i know some of you are gonna say that) i want to give an example that made me open my eyes alittle (even if the taxes on the merchandise and shipping is high).....about a month ago here in Cali at a shop there was a 2006 Yamaha R1 for sale, i spoke with the owner of the shop and he told me that the bike will sell in a day or 2 with no problem. he was selling the bike for 50 million pesos, it sells in the states for i think 12k (maybe alittle cheaper) which in the currency conversion more or less is like 27 million pesos. but i can buy that same bike for about 5k-7k dollars with a re-built title. so with this example i think i can make some kind of money....what do you guys think....please any help would be greatly appritiated....thanks in advance...

Gator says on Jan 2, 2007, 12:57: According to DAIN this is classified as as "used vehicle"and can NOT be imported into Colombia. DAIN is Dirección de Impuestos y Aduanas Nacionales which controls Taxes and import duty. If your Spanish is up to it here is their web site: www.dian.gov.co "Credidi pretio parvo emere et magno vendere tibi in animo fuisse!" . 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

cali373 says on Jan 2, 2007, 18:51: Why would you want to do that. Wouldn´t it be cheaper overhead to ship from the foreign country where they are manufactured directly to Colombia? with the exploitation of cheap labor overseas I doubt we assemble motorcycles in the U.S. but I do not know for sure. Smile if you are a thinker! 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

PanosL1 says on Jan 3, 2007, 02:12: business ideas do you guys think that it is a good idea to ask questions and give details for business ideas you might have in a public forum like this one? I mean if you are in Cali why not go to a lawyer that specializes in imports / exports and ask your questions.. Or any any lawyer .. Am I the only one that sees something wrong here?
