They need to Deep-Six that anchor Baby BS Law Looking at those figures, its no wonder the US is going bankrupt! When I worked in Immigration at the Federal Krome detention center, the Amount of Taxpayer's money detaining Illegals was mind Boggling. Add Free (to them, not us)Medical care on top of that, and it was quite the tidy sum. In Jamaica and the Bahamas not long ago, they had like 70 Cuban Rafters land on the Bahamas and their Prime Minister called Fidel and said "We have 70 of your Citizens detained here and tomorrow we are putting them on a Plane and sending 'em back to you" Since the Bahamas have formal relations(unlike us) with Cuba and a Deportation agreement, Castro accepted them back! Too bad we don't have an agreement like that! They need to deep six that Cuban Adjustment act that grants these people permenent US Residency after 1 yr, 1 day and with this benefit gone, they will stop coming in such large numbers. Immigration will then be fair for all immigrants; as it is now, its very unfair for all other groups~!

Anchor Baby Not only Latin Americans have figured out Uncle Sam’s birthright bonanza. South Koreans have created a birth tourism industry. Korean tour operators fly Korean mothers into Los Angeles and other American cities, there to give birth —in Korean-owned clinics with Korean staff— to be an "American." There are even websites like www.birthinusa.com that advertise "from birth to citizenship." Korean chaperons help get the babies California birth certificates and U.S. passports to take home. Junior can then dodge Korea’s draft —and sponsor his/her family in America when reaching a certain age if they feel like moving. Pledging allegiance to the United States has nothing to do with it

I, personally, would like to see changes along these lines:

Children of U.S. citizens are citizens, wherever born.

Children of an American and a foreign parent are treated as citizens
until their 18th birthday. Then they, the children, must choose one
citizenship; no dual nationality (Even though Mrs. Gator has dual
nationality).

U.S.-born children of legal resident aliens are not citizens at
birth. If their parents naturalize while they are minor dependents
before 18 they may naturalize with them (assuming no criminal record
or other recognized impediment). Otherwise they pursue
naturalization, if wanted, as do other immigrants.

U.S.-born children of illegal aliens are not citizens, period.

How equil is it???? I work all my adult life and some of my minor years to one day own a home with a 30-year mortgage and live with my family. I also try to save for vacations etc.

In most places in South America they cry about poverty but their homes are theirs. They live happy and do not have to work to pay the mortgage. Those that do come to the US to
Work to sent the money home. I wish I could go to another country, make 10 – 100 times what I would make at home. Send as much home as possible to build buy houses for the family.

What one earns in a year buys a house, the second year the beach house, the third year the farmhouse (finch)…

The money I save this year buys me two homes in my wife’s city but only gives me the right to more debt here in the US.

I might agree with those who want to give everyone the right to come to the US to work if I have the right to go to Colombia to live with my family and make the same money I would make here. I am not even asking to earn more than I would make elsewhere. I am not asking to take the money out of Colombia. I will not try to avoid taxes. Can we have such an exchange or do we just allow those to come and rape then return to their country after the guest worker visa expires?

It is not a fair deal for the US citizen who has no right in the US or any country. Give me a house for $50,000 not $500,000. This is what traitor BUSH should be working on not selling the country to the lowest bidder.

Boy, how stupid Americans are!

I think Gator has the right idea for the anchor baby problem. it is a real shame that all one needs to do is come here anyway they can, pop out a puppy, then use that to get the rest of the gang in.......they need to change that, but that would be the smart thing to do....out of the reach of intelligence for the politicians....

heres a twist to the prison population, which may or not include the local county pokeys.....it the arresting law enforcment agency has a policy of checking the immigration status of the prisoner, then when they have an immigration hold, the bad guy gets booked into la pinta, or if not, they will get a citation.......so, there are times when the illegal gets booked or cited, depending if the agency decides to enforce federal law.....it the agency does not, then alot of the wanted illegals get released with a citation, and slip through the system....all law enforcement should be on the same page, and not be able to "choose" not to enforce federal laws....

Just my opinion...

Yep-I agree with Gator on tha Anchor baby Law! In El Paso, Mexican Women cross over to El Paso in the last few days of their pregnancy to drop the Kid and claim US Citizenship for their Kids. What a Scam. They have bankrupted the local hospitals there; another law like the Cuban Adjustment Act that needs DEEP-SIXING but don't look for the President or Congress to repeal it as it is now-they like vote pandering! BTW, A Person holding US Citizenship technically cannot have Allegiance to another flag! Also they must defend the US Flag in time of War! Last few lines in this Wikipedia Link, Requirements for obtaining US Citizenship:
"Oath of Allegiance
The applicant swears to
support the Constitution and obey the laws of the U.S.;
renounce any foreign allegiance and/or foreign title; and
bear arms for the Armed Forces of the U.S. or perform services for the government of the U.S. when required"

Gator says on May 14, 2007, 13:39:

The USSC... ,Mike, knocked that out of the box with a legal opinion. The Supreme Court of the United States has stated that dual nationality is "a status long recognized in the law" and that "a person may have and exercise rights of nationality in two countries and be subject to the responsibilities of both. The mere fact that he [sic] asserts the rights of one citizenship does not without more mean that he renounces the other" (see Kawakita v. U.S., 343 U.S. 717 [1952] ).

While recognizing the existence of dual nationality and permitting Americans to have other nationalities, the U.S. Government does not endorse or encourage dual nationality as a matter of policy because of the problems which it may cause. Claims of other countries upon dual-national U.S. Citizens often place them in situations where their obligations to one country are in conflict with the laws of the other.

In actuality the only way to forfeit citizenship is the individual must formally renounces US citizenship in writing before a consular officer

My understanding is That there's no formal way for a Colombian to "renounce" his/her citizenship. Funny that in a country with so many tramites they don't have a flurry of paperwork for that task.
