Immigrant visa or spousal visa? Pros/Cons?!?!

I did a search on this website but, didnt get a definitive or clear answer? In your opinion, which is the better route to go? My wife hase her K-3 interview on 7/10 but, I see that her Immigrant petition (CR1 I think) was also just approved. So... she can do the K-3 interview in about 2 weeks or the Cr1 interview in probably 4?

I thought I read someplace that CR1 was better b/c you don't have to do an adjustment of status? Is that true? Why is that "better"?

Your feedback & ideas or comments are appreciated!

The "problem" with the CR1 is that they do not zip through the NVC in a couple of weeks like the K visas. The NVC handles the I-864 and the Fee Bill for the embassy so you've got a couple of months of paperwork shuffling back and forth between you and the NVC. The guys with experience going the CR1 route should be able to say how long that all took. Having said that, even if it took another couple of months, I'd rather go the CR1 route than the K-3. A K-3 cannot work without applying for employment authorization and they have to adjust status. With the CR1 you're done with the government for a couple of years but with the K-3 it's non-stop. Of course it does have the merit of getting her here quicker and I know what that's all about!

UTC.. I appreciate your feedback... you havew gotten me this far and I would have been so lost up until now! i want to go with the cr1 route... it seems like an extra 30 to 45 days but, I do not have faith in our system! I have been away from my wife since NOV 2005 and if the K3 can get her here in the long run a month or two quicker it is worth it to me!

I wish the system was better cause my pref is to go CR1 but, if K3 gets her here after the 7 months we have been apart so be it!!!

I don't blame you for a second having gone the K-3 route. It sure is nice not climbing into bed every night by yourself (among other things)!

Hummmm... Well, my wife's CR-1 petition was approved... and her K-3. She goes to Bogota tomorrow for her K-3 interview. Her CR-1 interview I'm estimating will be in 45 days from now. We have been apart since November and we are both restless.

Common sense says to wait the extra time for CR-1 but, my heart says I need my Calena next to me ASAP! I'm prob not making the best decision but, we are at our wits end after 9 months of being apart.

only 9 months?! we're at the point where the nvc is processing our ds-230. we've been apart since dec 18th 2004. we knew it would take some time, but my wife keeps reminding me to be patient, that it's in god's hands. i remind her that it's also in the hands of gov't, god i trust, gov't i'm not so sure of... lol

for us, the time frame was that it was received at the nvc on june 21st, processed and out the door on it's way to the embassy as of july 20th. that's how long it took them to process our ds-230.
