I'm looking Personal (in my apartment) DSL connection in el Centro de Bogota

I'm moving back to Bogota living en el Centro to finish my schooling and I am trying to find out companies that will install a DSL or even better T3 line in my apartment.

Since I am studying in summer school (UCB) I will arrive the day before classes start at Los Andes (a university in Bogota). In Colombia the school schedule is different than in the US.

You might know that the universities in the US well mine UC Berkeley use labtops for everything and wireless internet connection so all my info is in my labtop. I could buy a desktop in Colombia and pass all my info from my labtop to my desktop, but that is just too much work.

Dial-up is too slow and in Colombia they charge you for each min. you are connected not like the US where it is free.

I want to find a company that can come in and install a DSL, T1 or T3 line in my apartment. In the US the companies have zones so I assume the same is true for Colombia. Like it might pose a problem to have connection if I am on the 10th floor and they have to run a wire the side of the building.

If you can help me with this I would be much appreciated.

Pete.

Also just so you know it is so cheap to have cable here that it is not worth taking anything else

Banda ancha isn't Don't expect to be wowed by the speed of cablenet, though. The fastest they offer is around 256 KBS. Way slower than your average DSL or Cable modem elsewhere.

yeah that is true, but cable net is faster than Supercable, even though they offer the same speeds, but that is the best that you are going to get, at leat that I know of.

Try ETB Mundo sin Limites Maybe you could call to ETB or go to their site:
You need "Banda ancha" www.etb.com.co

Or as some people said: cablenet or supercable.

Inquire in Los Andes about the best way to hook up to the www Pete- I am very familiar with Los Andes (graduated from there in '97) and, at the time, their IT department was ahead of the curve in terms of web dev and www connections compared to other universities (Javeriana, Externado, Rosario, etc). You can go to the Edificio Hermes (next to the administrative office, Edificio Franco) and ask the IT staff to give you the low down on current (and best) connections to the www. Also, providers may offer discounts to current students, so it's definitely worth asking.

BTW- if you have any questions on studying at Los Andes, send me an email with your questions. I did all my undergraduate work there and think it was a wonderful and challenging experience. Good luck, and be prepared to meet some really interesting people.
