Im looking for a hotel that is really cheap but clean in either barranquilla or Cali

I stayed in a hotel recomended my friends of mine in medellin and it only cost 24.000 pesos a night. it was called Alcaravan and it was located around carrera 50. anyway Im not big on frills .. and the aproximatly 11 dollars night i was spending allowed me to do other things i wanted to do. Im planing on taking a trip to colombia next month. perhaps after the feria de flores becuae i get the feeling this is probably not the most economical period to travel to colombia... anyway if anyone knows of cheap safe places to stay then i would appreciate some help.... by the way i plan on staying for two to three weeks.. to date i havnt narrowed it down to barranquila or cali....

Arthur Brode's offer sounds like a good deal. Consider taking it. Maybe he'll even let you sleep in your sleeping bag on the grass in his backyard with his rabbit, for slightly less, but for Arthur's sake, it's not a good idea to take in strangers. That's why I don't take in people off the internet in our four bedroom penthouse in Cali. You never know what you're going to get.

There are nice hostels in north Cali, if you have a guidebook. If you don't know any, try hanging out at the "Cali Hotel" (http://www.calihotel.com/) lobby a few meters north of Avenida Sexta on Calle 15, in north Cali. The hotel is facing a huge bar with lots of green plastic chairs. Don't drink there at that place with the hundreds of green plastic chairs. The waiters are slow as frozen molasses, dumb as doorknobs, snobby, and the prices are triple as anywhere else. One time that I told the waiter that I was going to the men's room for a minute, they took my cigarettes, lighter, bottle of rum, bottle of cola and my cellphone, and the table was cleaned so that it looked like nobody had sat there all night. The waiters acted innocent. I then decided not to leave a tip, and to say negative comments about the establishment in the future.

The Cali Hotel is highly recommended, but the prices start at $55, which is why I suggest going to the lobby bar there for conversation, beer, and trying to find out where the hostels are. There is a hostel only six blocks away, but I don't know the address or reputation.

For Baranquilla, maybe El Señor Elmodefogue can recommend a hotel or a family to stay with. Search for his username and send him an email. John

Correction - The Cali Hotel is probably very good also, and I've read good comments about it, but it is further south by a couple of miles near the bullring.

The name of the hotel that I meant to refer to on Calle 15, north of Avenida Sexta by a few yards is the Cali Plaza - http://www.caliplaza.com/

So.Arthur, tell me, all these people recommending your services are not really satisfied customers but your other handles? I'll have to ask Peter to look at this....

well thanks for the help im still loking for that perfect place.. im not sure there is such a place. I am X military and i kind of fell in love with Colombia during a 3 month stay In bogota. However, serving in the US military and going to Colombia as a private citizen is two totaly diffrent animals. Ive never been to Cali or Barranquilla. One thing i learned from my trip to medellin is that isf you search long and hard enough you can find a place that is both secure andcheap without having to take out a 2nd morgage. i like to have fun and spend my money on other things other than an overpriced room. anywy if anyone has anymore information i would be happy to look at it.

Why if they are all your different handles with different e-mail addresses I probably wouldn't know the difference. You'd still be answering all the pm's.

Desi
