Hi All,
Question on Catholicism, and marriage.
I don't know much on marriage, or Catholicism, but I wanted to ask, if I wanted to get married to a Catholic Colombian... what is the process? Do i need to become Babtised?
It is a big deal I pressume.
Regards

teppar says on Oct 17, 2004, 23:15: still searching.... hi guys....i can't speak for other religions, but i know for me (i'm armenian apostolic...kind of like greek orthodox) i don't have to convert and he doesn't have to convert to my religion either (we're planning a church service in colombia in a catholic church, and one in the UAE where we live in my church so i need to find out both rules). all we need is baptism certificates and letters from our churchs stating we've never been married before. the rules are the same for both. the problem for me still remains that there seems to be some document the catholic church requires me to sign which makes me promise that i will not try to convert my spouse to my religion and i will raise my children in the catholic faith. i have no problem with the first part, but i certainly can't promise the second! this is where things are hanging at the moment. since i don't speak spanish we're doing the pre-wedding catholic church class thing here in the UAE so i've got family members talking to the catholic church here to find out what is the situation. i'll keep you updated, but so far its a bit stressful and causing a bit of a scandel (my very religious aunt is saying it is a sin for us to be married in both churches...urrggghhh). and i thought weddings were supposed to be a joyous occasion celebrating the love between two people...silly me (read a lot of sarcasm into that please! if i told you guys what is going on with my family on this one you'd understand...)
