If you want to make a film here in Armenia/Colombia in general

I don't remember if I posted this before, but filmmaking as a whole is rising here in Colombia. I'm now on the Council of Cinematography here in El Quindío, which branches out from the "Ministerio de Cultura" on a national level. So if anyone needs any help/info, just send me a contact.

Rubito.... No shit?! Now see, this is exactly what I need to know, fantastic. Know any prodcos that may be looking for projects here? I'm debating on my next script taking place here and am not sure if I should do it for a US audience (way more money) or for a colombian audience (maybe, maybe easier to get produced).

Let me guess, if it's for a US audience, it's about the caucasian hero who comes down here to kill all the Colombian baddies, right? Just kidding.

Make it for a Colombian audience, we could use a good movie about our country,

Actually the US version - which is a clearer story for me for now. Would be in english (for the most part). It's a tough industry. for instance.

If I show Colombia in the trypical light - drugs, prostis, violence, blah, blah people in the states will see it because that is how they think colombia is. Think Mr and Mrs. Smith, etc. Part of it takes place in colombia, but for a reason (although negative for the country and completey not true).

If I show Colombia in a different light, there needs to be a really good reason why US audience will want to see it - which is difficult, hence the market would really be colombian expats (who won't wait and buy a pirated copy) so that could be a hard one.

For a Colombian audience, I can do the regular BS like "virgen de los sicarios" and the other stuff that that guy did. not my thing I met the DP, cool guy, but I'd like to see him work with other people.
Question is is: are there enough colombians who would like to see a movie made/takes place here, that isn't the violence, etc. and be willing to pay in theaters and not the 2,000 peso DVD's that you can buy in the street?

"La Sombra del Caminador" excellent freaking film was not a huge seller. Sold a lot more than Colombian Dream, but since it was extremely low budget (and way more intereesting) it was a finacial success. Had relations to the war and all, but it wasn't the moving story in it. I was thinking of going more this route, but would like ot write something for a US prodco.

Yes there is!! Count me in. All my family and friends would gladly pay so se that!

We're sick of the same BS as always, we want to see the Colombia we know and love!

Simon, you aren't that far off. Some guy did start writing something that was basically the gringo who comes down here and helps everyone out. I didn't like it that much. The reason stuff like that works out is because it is automatic conflict - someone outside of their own realm.

Actually I'm "somewhat" working with a buddy down here on a new project that is different - just a regualar story, but filmed here. I unfortunately just don't find the particular project interesting, wish I did so I might do my own/look for others.

To be stereotypical... one colombian family with all the thousands of cousins would probably create enough ticket sales to finance a project. jejejeje

If you want you can check out some stills from "Daniel sela Juega" that I helped out with. It was filmed here in El Quindío. Now there is a real battle between the exec prod and director, there's even two versions of it because they aren't talking to each other. Bufalo although you're talking about people that want to make films, my husband is just interesting in making documentaries, he has some ideas line up.(nothing involving drugs).. the BBC producer did many documentaries and TV shows , she worked with them for 30 years, she is thinking maybe in the future to go with my husband and visit Colombia. they have another series to do after this one, so they are a bit tight at the moment, but they are is looking for more ideas about Colombia, something different
