Just thought I would put this out there. Have not found it easy or cheap to call North America from Colombia.
Decided to use a VOIP provider but did not want to have monthly charges, just pay as you go....
Finally found a provider that works really well and no other fees than what you ring up talking. For N. America it is $.02 / minute.
So far while traveling this has been my best option. You can download a softphone from the site for free and it installs to the computer you are on without having to manually do any of the setup. I bring my own headset and find computers I can install a program to and then just delete it when I am finished.
You can also have it call a number, say your colombian cell phone, and once you pick up, it will connect you to another number, like your novia in America.... I find there is a bit more of a time lag with this option, than just using a headset and the computer.
If you want to check it out here is the link:

One thing I like about it is that you can set it up to give you a custom number that you can call anytime from your cell in the US to a cell in Colombia for the same price, no computer needed (after the initial set up). Works great but there is a bit of a delay in the conversation sometimes that's annoying.
