Ideas on Cheap Flights? Spirit Air?

Looking for Round trip flight Feb 2008 originating in Houston ending up in Bogota. I have found as low as $550 but am hoping to get the price down to $350 or $450. Bus trips from Medellin to Bog and longer layovers not a problem.

Any ideas?

I've heard from "panthdave" and "underwriter" that Spirit air may be opening up flights to bogota from Fort Lauderdale/Miami soon for very cheap. Any way to track if that's going to happen for real and when/to where?

any thoughts on designing my own connecting flights between different airlines?

I already live here in Bogota, but am trying to help bring a friend down. she's got an interest to visit. And yes, feburary does just happen to be the month that the US valentines day is in, but I'd never admit to such travesty and foolhardyness :)

No official announcement has been made on anyf lights to Colombia. American is fighting it with all it can muster. Let's hope Spirit does do it as it will drop prices quite a bit.

I don't think that much remember a bulk of your ticket is departure impuestos for Colombia and Estados Unidos.

Last time an American Airline went against American Airlines was United and they lost and failed..and I think Spirit will too going against American on Latin Routes.

What would be interesting if Copa will get Aero Republica some 737's to do direct flights to Medellin,Bogota, and Cali from MIA that I think would be a good and will not fail..

I wish Spirit would do some direct flights to Cali, Cartagena and Medellin. I like Avianca too, they have a lot of new planes.

This may sound crazy, but try searching for flights originating from surrounding cities such as San Antonio (3.5 hours away) or Austin (3 hours) or College Station. A couple of years ago I found that leaving from San Antonio, connecting in Houston and arriving in Sao Paulo was hundreds of dollars cheaper (flying Biz Class) than a direct flight from Houston. I had someone drive me to SA. On the return flight I got off the plane, cleared immigration, picked up my luggage and walked out in Houston. If you're lucky, maybe you'll find a less expensive fare.
