Colombia - Government entities adopt SMS // TELECOMPAPER AMERICAS (WAS RDSL AMERICAS) , July 20, 2005
Colombia's technical studies and education credit institute Instituto Colombiano de Credito Educativo y Estudios Ticnicos (ICETEX) will be the first State entity to utilize SMS to provide information to citizens. At present, ICETEX is using USD 854,700 per month to send information through mail to the students using the entity's services. With the new system, the Institute expects a 90 percent saving in the mail budget, and a saving of USD 55,900 with files, paperwork and customer assitance. Meanwhile, the Agenda de Conectividad will invest USD 42,700 in a WAP solution development so that the users access ICETEX information by Internet through their cell phones.
