I will be in Cartagena on Feb 18-27 can anyone recommend

some good places to eat and nightclubs that are fairly safe. I am staying in Boca Grande area.

Thanks for the feedback....Chao

I like seafood restaurants and dance places where no one will spike the drink.

i don't know from fancy sea food but i like "la boquilla" for mojarra frita con patacones y arroz con coco. my favorite place in cartagena to party and get really wasted is upstairs "tu candela" in the old city, near the clock.

I'll get there, when I get there!

wait a minute, no need to go all the way up to la boquilla for sea food, oldgringo took me to a great place in bocagrande, on the beach across from "el caribe hotel.

I'll get there, when I get there!

Name is Kiosko Bony others are Club de Pesca, La Olla Cartagenera and try the Mojarra or Parga Rojo en Leche de Coco or the Cazuela de Mariscos. On this last one don't be fooled. On the menu it is listed under "soups" but it's a meal in its self-all kinds of seafood

"Credidi pretio parvo emere et magno vendere tibi in animo fuisse!" .

The best seafood I have had was in La Boquilla... great beach, hardly any vendors.

On another note, at an undislosed location, last month, I went to a place near Cartagena which had sea turtle on the menu, needless to say, knowing that it is an endangered species, I thought that I would indulge and get my fill of it before it is extinct. It is expensive but worth it. I look forward to next time.

Eateries... and nightlife... I just got back tonight from 11 days there. When in doubt as what to do at night, you can always do the chiva rumbera. Some other night spots are Mr. Babillas, Babar and Cafe del Mar and the other one next to the Naval museum and it is outside on top of the wall.

Get bottle service at the clubs and then you control the bottle and have plenty to share. A bottle of Ron Medellin will run you about 80,000 for a full 750ml bottle and 45,000 for 1/2 that. The exchange rate has been close to 2150 pesos to the dollar at the exchange houses.

There are also some clubs near the clock, where the banco popular tower is across the street. These are upstairs clubs. They seemed a bit smaller and darker.

Cafe del Mar was good as we rested on futons outside and had a great view. not a good place on windy nights. Mr. Babillas always was hopping. Get there before 11pm or you may not get a table.

As far as eating goes, I think bocagrande has more pizza parlors than Italy. There are soome good local places and a 1/2 chicken with all the trimmings will run you 8,000 to 12,000 pesos.

Lunch is cheap. We would usually get soup, a soft drink and chicken with salad and beans for 4 or 5,000 pesos per person.
