I was a fool for a Colombiana
I had dated 2 Colombianas before but they weren´t in Colombia. I really liked Colombianas when I met some for the first time at a club in South Beach. I´m a regular guy, got my stuff together and am 36, fully fluent in Spanish, and have dated girls in the US from 19 up and always good looking girls. I´m not a monger or fat, balding stereptype who looks for a mail order bride.
After meeting many girls in Miami I happened across a Colombian web site and chatted with people and met this girl. I really never thought much as I had met a few people and it wasn´t a site like amigos.com or the site where girls are looking to leave colombia.
Well one girl I was dating in Mexico, where I also live, started to get jealous of how girls looked at me and of how many girls I´d dated in the past. I do love to travel and have been all over the world and decided to meet in person this one girl I´d been chatting with. I went to see her, well actually we met up in Cartagena, she is from Ocaña and studies in Cucuta but heck if i´m going all that way I want sun and sand and a nice place to hang out.
There is alot of wisdom on this board, especially from those expats living in Colombia. At first the usual red flags didn´t come up, this girl was home in bed on weekend nights, didn´t drink or smoke and enver asked for money. I was skeptical and after the January 2006 trip with her needed my space and said ñets just be friends. We had kept in contact and we still liked each other and was second guessing my gut feelings which have never been wrong. Fast forward to December 2006 and we make plans to meet up in Peru and hang on the beach over 2 weeks and see the ruins, etc. I´ve always wanted to go and the cool weather and rain in California and Mexico was getting to me. She then said she had a boyfriend but she never saw him.
Well during the Peru trip we had some heart to heart talks and I came clean with all the girls I slept with since I saw her last but she said she wasn´t with anybody else. She was always jealous of me and wanted to see my cell phone and who called me and who I called and sent messages to. I let her see as I had nothing to hide. Then I wanted to see her phone. She had a few gringo numbers in it and said she hadn´t talked to the other guy in weeks although her phone showed a call the day before she met me.
Long story short, too many inconsistencies and I´ll be damned if I´m going to have anything to do with bringing someone to the US or have a relationship with them if there isn´t 100% honesty and trust. Reading the postings here, there ar emany bad experiences but I always said to myself well, the other guy had a larger age difference and didn´t speak Spanish or was ugly and I´m not that way. I also got the other guy´s phone number. She said he was a nice guy and it was obviuos she was playing him too and I didn´t want to see a nice guy get taken so upon arriving back from Peru I contacted him and we compared notes. It seemed from the evidence and circumstantial evidence that this girl probably had 3 or 4 guys. I was top on the list but I don´t care. Deceit and lies aren´t my thing and if someone is in the habit of doing it, then where will it stop? I do write this so others may learn from my mistakes. It wasn´t like I was sending her money it was a pretty cheap lesson and when all is said and done, we had lots of good sex and I got to see 2 great countries, not too bad. I´m just looking for what everybody is, happiness although there are those out there who have ulterior motives or whose consciences and upbringing are different.
I´ll stick a list of things that I ignored for a bit. I do feel like a fool but then with Don Gringo´s comments all of you out there in cyberspace can be a little wiser.
1) Changing phone numbers. Over the course of 2 years this girl had about 5 different phone numbers. They seemed to evolve and when we were physically together, the number from the day before was no more. i.e. nobody would be able to call her. Also not taking calls in your presence,due to nobody having the new number, except of course her family. That tells alot and says who is calling.
2) Not having any fixed phone number and just cell numbers.
3) Not working and making excuses for not working, i.e. need to study, wouldn't be worth it. Or well after bus fare it doesn't make sense.
4) Although reminding me she is poor and not working, always seems to have a new cell phone and lots of jewellery and nice clothes. I didn't buy the stuff. Always gifts from an amigo. Always on shopping trips in Venezuela and getting nails done and hair done.
5) No friends. You can tell alot about somebody from their friends or the company they keep. Always bashing girls as bad and the like as the reason, the only friends thereforebeing family and you know they'd lie and cover for their own family. The acuaintances she did have were one girl who was somewheat related and applied for visas 5 times and the last time got it as it was a fiancee visa.
6) Asking for money or gifts. This girl didn't BUT mentioned that novios should always buy gifts and nobody wanted a tacaño novio o esposo.
7) Saying I love you after a month. Fishy stuff. Te amo, not just te quiero. I´ve had a few girls fall in love but never that quick and especially when only just chatitng on msn and not meeting in person!
8) The other party bringing up marriage. I always thought, hey meet someone, fall in love, get to know them and pop the question. But when the girl is saying lets get married la semana santa 2 months away???
9) Having lots of sexy photos in lingerie, etc. Why would a normal girl need these. Moreover why would she make them the icon in msn messenger if she is only chatting with you? Also failure to put up a pic of the 2 of you, or maybe that would tip off the others that she wasn´t theirs.
10) On more than 1 dating site. Well I wasn´t on a dating site and didn´t know she was.
11) When asking her for the truth or to explain prior inconsistent statements, instead of coming clean, just demanding to know what you know instead of laying out the truth.
12) Has she applied for visas in the past and been turned down? Was she truthful about the applications? This girl had 2. When I met her the first time she only had one. The second application she said the guy applied for a fiancee visa but she didn´t know and just wanted a tourist visa. Her appointment at the embassy, evidenced by stamps in her passport was 2 months after she met the other guy. I say BS as a fiancee visa won´t get to the appointment stage unless both parties sign a letter of intent to marry, also the appointments take more than 2 months from date they first met.
13) Does her story change on certain things?
14) Is her name Yeiny Q from Ocaña and studying in Cucuta?
When I finally gave her the boot about 2 weeks ago, if she had been honest I may have given her another chance but its better this way. I am a stickler for honesty. I do think there is another guy out there being lead on by her. The other guy I spoke with posts on this site and he is over her. Funny he never knew about me but she told me about him. I wonder what else we didn´t know??

My take on this is that these guys who keep getting played represent themselves in a desperate way and are treated as such. I mean, how much self-worth could a person have if he is going to marriage agencies, browsing international dating sites, and traveling thousands of miles because he cannot get a woman in his own country? Many argue and say this is a farse, that they CAN get any woman they want, but why do they choose to travel across country boundaries, drop lots of money to impress, and go for more undesirable girls (i.e., very young, poor, uneducated, etc.)? Who is fooling whom here?

Plenty of working girls and thats what there for but not for a relationship. I think there is nothing wrong with that..I have done that no problem. Normal and Prepago Party girls which some are alot of fun to go party with..I have a normal girlfriend now in Medellin and we get along.. Remember meeting her in Folia one night and we starting dancing in Parque Llares. We went to lunch the next day and she did not give it up almost my third visit down and we get along. She is a strong independent Medellin woman some American characteristics.. She has brought up her 10 year old daughter on her own which is amazing because the father took off for Germany for work and never came back a Colombian. Its funny we both are mini alcoholics,broke,no credit,and we both work hard at our jobs she in Medellin and I in Miami but we laugh and have fun together over the phone or when I am in Medellin. Will be down in my apartment this Thursday and she is very happy because she has been very stressed working and we are going to be together for the weekend as I am very stressed from my job here in Miami with all the contracts we had from Super Bowl..well the rainy Super Bowl I laughed at all those fools who payed the money to sit in the rain. panthdave Miami 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
