I want to hire a mariachi (8 piece) band for my friend in Barranquilla

Hola everyone,

I want to hire and send a mariachi band to my sweet friend in Barranquilla.

Does anybody know of any band I can contact? I am perfectly willing to send them money by western union ahead of time.

I like my friend a lot and think she would like this. WE have been corresponding for 2 months, one day and about 4 hours. She is a real sweetie pie with a heart of gold and she has been corresponding daily for a couple of weeks now with my 8 year old daughter also.

I sent her roses & a teddy bear a couple of weeks ago and she loved them.

Is this too soon to send her a mariachi band? I want to win her heart?

Utopiacowboy ,

Do you know how to get a hold of jediknight on the planet-love forum? I just registered but it takes 48 hours for my account to be approved.

I am borrowing his idea from his trip report today and I wanted to know what band he got since I would like to hire them also.

Jeff

Be careful I suggest you think it through before doing this as anyone could say that they have or know of a mariachi band in Barranquilla, take the money you send them and fcuk off, leaving you none the wiser.

Although a bit extreme this is the best mentality to have when dealing with people on web site forums who are using pseudonyms and all those who are recommended by these, as you have no idea who they are.

All the best anyway...

Jediknight does not have his email address listed on his Planet Love profile so I posted a message with your request. I saved the mariachi band for the night before our wedding as this is traditional.

Thanks Utopiacowboy Utopiacowboy,

Thanks for the information and helping me out. I appreciate it. So is it extreme what I am thinking of doing ? I wonder what a Colombian woman would think ? Ladies jump in and give me your opinions please.

Utopiacowboy if you could ask your wonderful wife's opinion that would be great. Am I breaking any cultural rules of romance ?
Is it okay to do this or would be a big no-no ?

We have not met yet but we have emailed each other 100's of email , chatted on messenger and talked on the phone.

Thanks,

Jeff

I'll ask her what she thinks. Of course she loves mariachi music so any excuse for her would probably be enough. I'd ask her now but she's taking a nap. Later on today.

She got up from her nap and I explained your situation to her. Just as I predicted, she thought a serenade was a fine idea. Any excuse to hear some mariachi music....

I don't know if you saw this but Gary Bala posted this info in response to your request:

Another good mariachi band in Barranquilla is "Mariachi Guadalajara", Cra. 46, No. 82-161, Local 1, Tel: 328-7176 or 363-6344 or 378-3015.
Director-Violinista: Luis Sarmiento. Very professional band, with about 7 or 8 members, and their show includes at least 6 or 7 musical selections.
Their service includes complimentary color photos of the event. Check with them about their current prices, but I believe that they are reasonable.
Regards.

Well I got your message and called the guy. He sounds like a very nice guy. Only one problem they don't speak English and I don't speak much Spanish yet.

How do I say "how much do you charge for 30 minutes for your mariachi band ?"

This is going to be very interesting and difficult to arrange but I like a good challenge. I really like this idea.

Try this Jeff "me gustaria alquilar su grupo...cuanto cuesta para treinta minutos?"

You might want to offer a "propina" also. (a tip)

Thanks Miguel I am going to have to keep practicing my spanish. I repeated what you told me and I did not understand his response.

The poor guy I think I tried his patience enough for today.

I am going to carry on in my quest to find a mariachi band , hire them , pay them and get them to play for for my friend.

jeff, I know I promised you a comment on this matter, but I'm still a bit hesitant to offer any advice. I tend to think that you should wait a little and see how the friendship develops further, but I'm rather cautious by nature and then again, I'm not a Colombian woman and my mindset is quite different really.
Then again, I don't think you could damage this friendship that you hope to develop into something more by sending her the serenata. As a woman I know I'd be glad and surprised. I'd be flattered by the attention and the fact that somebody who I haven't ever met in real life face to face would bother.
The question that remains is would this be too much and too soon? Only you yourself have that answer; two months of e-mailing and messaging plus phonecalls should give you a clue how well your serenata would be received.
Cheers,
Desi

The wife.... agrees with Desi. A little to soon in the relationship for this step.
She said, at least in her personal opinion, it would be embarrassing. She suggested some nice flowers with the promice of a visit soon.

Good luck

2retirensa thanks for PM and Gator thanks for feedback Well Folks,

Tuesday night at 7 pm is the music time.

I got the band to play music from me , a good friend that hopes to be more in the future. Also I failed to mention a important bit of information we had a misunderstanding on Friday that was completely my fault.

So the Mariachi band is also going to play some music with the theme that I am sorry.

I have had a heck of time trying to organise this and I contacted
Jamie at http://www.latin-wife.com/ and he arranged everything for
me.

He is going to send one of his staff tomorrow morning to talk to my friends Mother so that some of her family can be there when the band shows up.

Also he is sending a staff member to go with the band at 7pm and take some pictures that he will email me later . I am also writing up a note that the staff member will give my friend when they arrive.

I was very impressed with the great price Jamie gave me.

I am excited and happy. I am sure she will have a big smile on her
face.

Thanks to Miguel for trying to help me set up also. You are a great guy Miguel.

jeff... sorry i didn't e earlier...

i think it will be wonderful. i remember in medellin in the barrio where my wife was from, saranadeing was common and not only the lady in particular, but the community in general were turned on and enjoyed it totally.

when someone commented that the lady/family might be embarrassed, it is a form of embarassment, but the good form. imagine an 8 piece band outside your window. you might be shocked/embarassed/etc, but you and everyone would enjoy it.

good call. did you try asking our friend bob for help?

let us know how it went.

dwmte Yes I thought of him but I needed someone in Baranquilla to contact the group , pay the group on my behalf and that will accompany them to make sure everything goes fine.

I talked to Ingrid last week trying to arrange chocolates for my friend but they could not do it since they would have no control over what kind of chocolates would be delivered.
