I took the plunge....

Well, for better or worse, I have purchased my ticket and am officially going to Colombia this summer. As long as ticket prices go up, I'm going to feel good about this. If prices plummet, I'm going to be sick!!! Actually, I'm pretty darn excited about the trip. You folks have shared information and advice that has made me feel comfortable about this trip. Thanks!!!

Anything else? When packing for Colombia, what are some things that one might forget if this is the first time packing for Colombia? Is there anything I am going to want/need when I get there that I would have never thought of packing? I'm going to pack everything I can into a huge suitcase and carry on my camera and CD's. I'll pack clothing for both cold and hot climate, cameras, comfortable walking shoes, and I'll just use the ATM's in Colombia for money. Anything I might forget? I'm not leaving until June but I want to plan ahead for a change!!!

Photocopy your documentation and keep one photocopy on you at all times, especially in bogota.

Bring stylish clothes to enjoy the nightlife, and the rest of your clothes should suit the activities that you envisage doing. A pocket dictionary/phrasebook may be useful, as well as a money belt.

Finally, back up.. I wasn't able to access the internet this morning so I went to the big city and went shopping. I got a couple pair of shorts and a few Hawaiian shirts...not really...A few shirts for relaxing, yes, but definitely not HAWAIIAN shirts..
And, you know, they refer to me as "anal retentive" at work, too. I mean, I must sit in the same spot every day at lunch, everyone else should sit in the same spot, my desk remains clean, my clothes always look good with that crisp, clean crease in them, and I just like to do things in the same order all the time. Basically, I think the term "anal retentive" is a term disorganized people have for organized people. You know what they say, "If you can't beat them, ridicule them!" LOL...Truth be known, I really live on a tight budget and don't make a lot of money so every few dollars saved or overspent on a ticket is money that could have gone for something else. I'm sure you all make $40,000+ a year so you have a little more of a nest egg than I do. I've saved for 2 years to make this trip and I'm really stoked about it. It's going to be a vacation to remember...for the right reasons, I hope!!! :)

Captain Howdy Enjoy yourself Listen to Billy B. Very difficult with a character like you to spend alot of money in Colombia. Yes the Base Fares have risen on American but thats not because of Iran or Oil.. Thats because all the gringos are paying anyprice to get to Colombia..or I know Medellin. Screwing me up I have to switch now to Copa from Miami where I am get 411.00 including the departure tax out of Medellin. I fly every two to three weeks to Medellin from MIA..I watch my fares because I go every two to three weeks and 40.00 is alot and the savings for one year is good but if I was going on vacation I would not watch my funds I would party my ass off and enjoy. I am little economic now..but I know the ropes in Medellin but that comes from mistakes and time in Medellin.
MIA-MDE Base Fares
American Base Fare Now:434.00 plus Taxes www.aa.com
Avianca Base Fare Now:334.00 plus Taxes:www.avianca.com/us
Copa Base Web Fare: 325.00 plus Taxes only on www.copaair.com
Purchase at least two weeks in advance not holidays
So the only one that the base fare has risen is American because so many Gringos are connecting from other cities to my Happy Hour Flight out of Miami which leaves me no seats...UGHHHHHHHHHH
Well Screw American Here I am Copa...Your going to love me..

Captain... You'll be pleasantly surprised at how inexpensive things are there compared to what we are accustomed to in the US. I nearly fell out of my chair when I took a friend to a very nice restaraunt for steaks and drinks(both of which were really good) and was out of there for roughly $26US.

Apparently, you are very aware of your budget and it's limits so, I'm sure that you will be fine. You can have a good time on very little money there. I was hard at it all week while I was there, out every day for lunch, dinner and bars and still didn't spend $500 for the entire week. Keep in mind that was me living very loosely while I was there.

Bama...
I am very much like you when it comes to my vacations. I've never really let a couple of hundred dollars stop me but(I'm by no means rich!) for some people it's not that easy or maybe their smarter than me to live tighter. I believe CH is in the education field and I know the salaries are not near what they deserve(I once dated a teacher). BTW, many props to all that are in education. It is truly a labor of love. It damn sure isn't about the money. CH, you live in Texas, right? Be glad you're not in Louisiana! They are some of the lowest paid teachers in the nation(again, I dated a teacher here in LA so, that's my source). Thanks again, for your service, Captain.

No doubt CH... Follow your heart or you'll wind up like me! A job I could truly never have seen myself doing in places that I never wanted to see(for the most part). I am truly soulless but the money and time off seems to counter my overall discontent with what I do professionally.
I am a whore in my business. Really, I can't imagine what it is like to look forward to going to work. :(

Ok, enough pity! LOL When I grew up, I was gonna be a famous rock star! Pretty lofty dreams so, I settled. I still get to tour...in a sense.

I agree with Bama cuz I would slap the shit out of the first kid that came acting like I did in school. LOL but I'm serious at the same time. I liked to question a lot of teachers and their credibility. Maybe I should have been an attorney! That was for you UC. HAHA

A few mamacitas here.. I be content in the valley but I'm actually in West Texas. Nothing out here but oil and farming, mostly cotton, but a few peanuts. I grew up out here so it's home in my heart. When you're a teacher, it seems as though everyone treats you differently. They look at you kinda like a preacher. I'd love to meet a hot mamacita but the few girls I've been introduced to have all been primpy, high maintenance, status kind of girls. I want a girl who comes from nothing, has nothing, and will appreciate what little I can offer her. She should appreciate what I give her, not expect it! Therefore, I seek a Colombiana.

Cool... Tech is a pretty big deal out here. The school is what keeps Lubbock beating. Most adults are big Tech fans, much like in Nebraska. The younger folks, however, are more drawn to the University of Texas. I tell them not to worry, they're still young and there's still hope for them!!! LOL The landscape is not much to look at out here but the people make it all worthwhile. Good folks...My amiga has sent photos of Colombia and it looks soooo beautiful...green grass...mountains... snow...everything is so clean. I am excited about my trip. I'll proabably take like 1000 pictures, I'm sure!!! LOL And then I have my camcorder as well. Of course, some of my videos will not be for all eyes to see!!!!!!!! Colombia sounds better every day!

I hope to persuade more of my children to go to Tech but who knows? They may go astray and end up at UT or A&M. One thing about Tech and Lubbock - it's the land of the pelirubias. Gorgeous girls if that's your type but if you prefer las pelinegras como yo it's rough.

True.. I like the 3 coolest colors on earth when combined...Red, white, and black. There are no finer combination of colors than those 3 colors. You can't help but look and feel good when decked out in red, white, and black. Of course, I may not be totally objective as my high school colors were red, white, and black. And, yes, Red Raiders is a cool name as well....
