I Told You So!

I've been thinking of all the people who come to PBSH and "ask" for advice and then, disliking the advice that they've gotten, insist that they know better. What happens to these people I've wondered? This is the thread for the guy who was a gringo engineer convinced that the streets of Bogota were paved with gold and he could easily find a job pulling down 80 grand. This is a thread for the gringos who were moving to Colombia because it was (insert your adjective here) than where ever they were. This is a thread for the guys who ignore every bit of advice about safety because they're tough guys and tough guys like them don't back down one inch. So for all you sabelotodos out there who really did know better, here's your chance to say "I told you so!".

Yeah, what happened to the guy that was angry about getting bad advice on Bucamaranga? He came back on here and said nobody on here knows shit about Colombia. He also said that most of the posters on here live in a shit hole in New York, Florida and California. That was too funny...lol

I wouldn't have bought an apartment in Cali if I thought it was more dangerous than the barrio I grew up in.

Phoenix is a safer than east L.A. and I saw two guys get shot in the face at point blank range when I was walking out of the High Lighter one night.

I called 911 but one guy was dead already. The other guy got lucky. The bullet went through his mouth and came out behind his ear.

I rented a taxi all day one day and went around to bars looking for gigs. I got 5 gigs in one day, cold, just like that. From those 5 gigs, not only did I get asked back, I got 5 more offers from owners of different clubs who saw me, plus interest from an agency. This was all in Bogota. Proof is in the pudding :)

However, I wouldn't recommend working as an engineer in Bogota. If you are in demand in your specialty you will make 2.5 million a month. If not, you will be lucky to be working for minimum salary!

C'mon UC Like ANYONE, except maybe Elmo, ever posts personal negative shit on this site, esp. after asking, almost begging, for advice.

All you see are the "how do I get a divorce...", "why do Colombianas act......", "....most beautiful.....", "I'm marrying my Colombian after 5 great days together. Which visa is best?" etc. threads. Lately, there's been an influx in non-Spanish speaking gringos flooding the streets of Poblado, raving about the beauty of the paisas, raving about the safety of the city. Looking to buy property there. LOL!!! Dudes who have zero idea about the place apparently.

The sabelotodos are just part of the American way. Forget, stopping and listening, observing, learning to appreicate cultural differences. Nah, why do that? These folks just know-it-all, and are determined to fit their short square pegs, into round, deep holes.

Yeah, PBH is purely for entertainment purposes.

Rubi You're a musician. That shit does happen. If you're good, and can provide references as to where you've played in Bogota, of course, you're gonna be successful. And you know that you won't be getting paid the same as in the USA.

This other dude expected to make half of his six-figure NYC salary as an engineer in Bogota. Off the street. Yeah, right. You know he'll never come back and tell the board about his experiences in getting laughed outta Colombia.

UC you are a dammed scaremonger Always scaring people who just want to go to nice places like Medallo with your boogey man stories. But it's all a lie. El Colombiano in its front page (June 11) shows how safe Medellin has become: THE AUTHORITIES CANNOT AGREE ON THE NUMBER OR ARMED BANDS IN MEDELLIN, BUT THEY UNDERSTAND THAT MORE THAN 4000 KIDS REMAIN ARMED AFTER DEMOBILISATION OF THE AUTODEFENSAS AND THAT THEY REMAINT AT THE HIGHEST BIDDER’S ORDERS. It's only a little more than 4000 thugs! So why don’t you stop your terrorist warnings?

I read the online version of El Colombiano regularly. While I agree that Medellin is much safer and the usual gringo barrios are fine (Poblado, Laureles etc), there is always some item in there that causes you to go WTF?!?! Like the one you mentioned above. Hmmm, I wonder what barrios these 4000 guys are hanging around in?

Gringodiego... Funny story! "I didn't have to sit all night on the AUTOBUS..."

If you had come across a "pesca milagrosa" it wouldn't have mattered much if you were riding in a bus or a taxi... The danger of night buses is highly overrated... even more so since Uribe has almost eliminated the guerrillas. When is the last time you even heard about guerrillas messing with traffic? Viva Uribe! Abajo las FARC!

A few weeks ago? Could have been a desperate pre-election attempt to make Uribe look bad by a few dead-enders and hangers-on. The FARC is on its last legs. Uribe has defeated them. Viva Uribe! Abajo las FARC!

Gentlemen, just read the statistics... Violence is down... the roads are safe... and it is due to Uribe's policies. Of course, "banditos" are still around, but the economy is improving so much that even they will soon be marginalized, or more likely, absorbed into a growing and productive legitimate economy that is also the handiwork of Uribe's enlightened policies. Corruption will decrease, the FARC will be defeated, and Colombia will become the #1 nation in South America... that is my prediction. (Colombia is already doing not that bad with all the problems it has now. Just imagine when the unemployment decreases and more people are brought into the economic fold!)
