I know that this is not the appropriate place but it is linked to Colombia- I promise!
The fact of the matter is that my family and I are flying out to BOG from LHR in December, via Miami with American Airlines. My mum's best friend lives in Miami and as we have a 5 hour stop over before the Bogota flight, we were wondering if it is possible to meet them at the airport?
My sisters and I have British passports but my parents have Colombian passports with a US C1 transit visa issued (multiple entries). Does this restrict us to passing through immigration and going straight to the waiting gate or can we go out into the general terminal area and meet our friends? Would we have to inform the immigration officer on arrival that we will be doing this?
Any help on this is much appreciated.

flyfair50 says on Nov 18, 2004, 13:36: i'm not too sure but you should probably just call the miami airport and they will let you know. I know that they don't allow people without tickets near the gates (thanks to the idiots that flew planes into our buildings) and security is tight. So if you leave the gate area, you will have to check back in. I doubt that will be a simple procedure. But there isn't a big wall or anything so you can probably stand on one side and talk to them on the other.

ericthepro007 says on Nov 18, 2004, 14:02: Miami airport I traveled throught the Miami airport in August of 2004 from Chicago. I did not leave the secure area upon landing and was confined to the airport. My impression was no one without a ticket could enter the secure area. I alos received the impression I could not leave it. It's a big airport and I stayed close to my gates. They only asked for my passport (US) leaving the country. However, when I returned from Colombia I had to go through customs, grab my luggage for the next flight and find my gate. In finding my gate I left the secured area and people could walk in freely. I think your best to contact the airport.

Gator says on Nov 18, 2004, 20:34: Sad to Say.. but the the C1 visa will be considered "in transit" and not allowed to leave the secure area. The you and your sister will be able to go and visit. "Credidi pretio parvo emere et magno vendere tibi in animo fuisse!" . 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
