I need a Spanish/English lesson

I give up. I'm going to be taking some friends from Colombia to a restaurant in L.A. where the specialty of the house is Prime Rib. I tried to tell them what prime was and couldn't come up with a translation for Prime Rib in Spanish, what is it? I know Flank Steak is Sobrebarriga, Tri-Tip is Punta de anca, etc.
So what's Prime Rib and what is Rib Eye steak in Spanish?

Just have them eat it and I am sure they will be amazed.

Tell them that the beef was corn fed instead of free range and allows for a more tender cut of beef marbled with fat for the prime rib.

have a look here: http://www.beefretail.org/markSpanishLanguageBeefCutsChart.aspx

as far as prime rib goes, it is just a cut from a standing rib roast

Thanks, Terry2, that's a great webwite. However the translation must be from a different country, I noticed some things translated different like Flanksteak and Tri-Tip (Falda and Empuje) in Colombia we calle those Sobrebarriga and Punta de Anca. But it's a great site anyway, thanks again.

Bill,

It is all your fault, I am going to have to go buy a t-bone and grill it for dinner. With just sea salt and cracked pepper, rare.

I've never seen Prime Rib in Colombia and I'm sure they will think it's weird looking because of all the pink and all.

mrgizmo, we're planning on going to La Casita on Melrose, is that a good place to go to for some Colombian food?

On Melrose west of Western there's a restaurant called La Fonda Antioqueña. In fact they were located originally where la casita is now and the owners of La Casita bought the location without La Fonda owners knowledge (they were leasing). Needless to say La Fonda had to move and La Casita opened the restaurant in the same location hoping to get La Fonda's clientele. To be honest I have no idea how good they are, I've never been there. I have been going to La Fonda for at least 18 years, they have excellent service and excellent food as well. If you like steak, try the Churrasco, it's huge (my hat off to you if you are able to finish everything).
Their address is 5125 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90038. (323) 957-5164.
You won't be desappointed. Enjoy!
