Hi all
Just thought i would run this through you all, as i know how much you all like to have an opinion !!! I got married a few years ago to a mexican woman 3 or 4 years and sadly it didnt work out and we had a child which i dont see. The only relevance of that is that we still havent divorced but now i want to start the process.
However, a year or so ago i went to cali and met a girl and ended up going over there 3 times last year. She is a really good girl, we get on well but i couldnt settle there and decided i want to continue to make my money in England so that hopefully i can retire earlier in the future. So, our only future is to get married in colombia and to get her a visa for uk ( once my divorce is through of course !!)
However, the truth is ive heard stories that it can take years even if we marry for me to get her a visa to the UK ( well, i think ive read that here!). How true is this ? because the truth is, as you may or may not imagine, i dont know if i want to go through a tiring process for years to get her to be able to live here. Having already had a foreign wife, even though that was very straighforward to get her the visa ( mexicans can do 6 months as tourist without visa), i feel it will be much harder with my colombian novia as she isnt wealthy etc.
So, ive already discussed it with her, but if i can see it taking years i just dont know if i can see it through. She understands that because i just want to settle down and be happy and have my wife in England and she could just as well get on with her life and meet someone there and settle down.
I love her but sometimes you have to make decisions in life which means you dont always get what you want.
Am i right to think it could be a long long process once we are married there ????
All the best
Settler

kalder says on Mar 4, 2007, 06:00: No, quite the reverse in fact Once you are married, getting the UK Visa can be (literally) a matter of hours. If you've got all the necessary documentation, you turn up at the embassy in Bogota, pay your money, have your interview and (if your marriage is obviously bona fide) your wife gets her Spousal Visa there and then. The key is getting all your documents in order, especially the ones that demonstrate that you can financially support her if she lived in the UK. kat1 (Moderator) says on Mar 4, 2007, 06:01: It is easy to ger her the visa to come here, my sister in law sister got married this year with a british guy and she already is back in the UK, I think she entered the UK as a tourist first then they both went back to Colombia and they got married.

jay1234 says on Mar 4, 2007, 12:21: I would be more concerned about the divorce Where is your wife? If she returned to Mexico, the international divorce bit may be a pain. I am guessing she is in Mexico because you only wrote about her coming on a tourist visa and the fact that you don't see your child.

englishsettler says on Mar 4, 2007, 13:40: she did have a spousal visa to come to uk but she didnt use it and it expired. So, yes divorce will be a pain but she wants a quick divorce too , to move on with her life

bufalo says on Mar 5, 2007, 04:45: Good for you if everything works out. I myself wouldn't get too involved with anyone after the whole thing with the mexican lady, there is already one kid out there who never sees his dad, that alone would kill me. Not meaning this as any type of criticism by the way. "If you don't like it - lump it, take it down the road and dump it." - Archie Bunker played by Carroll O'Connor 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

englishsettler says on Mar 5, 2007, 09:44: bufalo, take your point but me and last wife were totally unsuited ! if she had been living in england and been english we would have still divorced !!! this girl is a really good girl and i know we should be good together but i take your point. I certainly wont be rushing into it but at same time i wanted to consider how much trouble it would be to get a visa because if it was going to be years i didnt want to go through endless strife when it wasnt realistic.
