Use www.voipbuster.com, buy a small amount of credit (maybe USD $20) and you get free calls from PC to landline in a whole host of countries, including the US, for 120 days. It's even free to call mobiles in the US. (Note a slight restriction in that these free calls have a limit of 300 minutes weekly, to stop it being used by businesses). I've been using this for over a year now, and regularly call Ireland, France, Spain, and the US all free (apart from buying a bit of credit) and I've never had a dropped call or had any problem with the reception.

The reality is that I pay much much more for my mobile in Colombia to call other Colombian numbers than I do to make all my international calls!!

Hope this helps

Skpe computer to computer call are free globally. I pay 2.1 cents to call landlines (and cell phones(?) in the U.S. and Puerto Rico (from Panamá), but there is a 3.9 cent connection fee

Toll free numbers in the U.S., UK(?), and globally(?) are free calls.

I have a Skype in number with a Pennsylvania A/C (717) which out-calls to my cell phone here, unless I an logged on to Skye, and automatically pre-pay with PalPal. That cost increased to $60 this year, I think, and I pay the same amount for an incoming call.

Rates from Panamá (not sure if this is helpful) I think you can see U.S. - Colombia at www.skype.com. I expect it might be cheaper from the U.S., but you don't say which end of the call you are on.

Destination Rate/minute Rate/minute incl. VAT*
Colombia $0.095 $0.109
Colombia-Armenia $0.095 $0.109
Colombia-Barranquilla $0.051 $0.059
Colombia-Bogota $0.051 $0.059
Colombia-Cali $0.051 $0.059
Colombia-Medellin $0.095 $0.109
Colombia - Mobile $0.099 $0.114
Colombia-Pereira $0.095 $0.109

Noelito, I think that I have heard of voipbuster, and I was curious to try it. But, if I remember, I couldn't do it from Panamá. I must try again, maybe was a similar sounding service.

Thanx for the report.

try www.smsdiscount.com They give you free calls to landlines in Colombia, USA, UK and many other countries (about 300 minutes/week) if you top-up 10.50 euros and 3 euro cent/min calls to cell phones.

who do you need to talk to? someone in the US/Canada then it's $0.02/min or $3/month for unlimited call outs... if you want to call colombia it's $0.10/min... if the other person also has skype - it's free... I just bought a skype phone for my wife - we chat for hours and she uses it to talk to her friends for free...

Call quality is dependent on the quality of your Internet connection, here in Cartagena sometimes its a problem but very seldom. Its definitely better than a cell to cell call and the price is right

I have used Skype in Puerto Rico, Panamá, and Colombia, and have found it generally satisfactory, even on WiFi.

Call clairity is usually better than telephone.

I say pass on Skype if you're calling Colombia - unless your calling someone with an internet connection. You can do much better than USD 0.10/min elsewhere. I've been using Orbitel phone cards that you can buy online - it's like USD 0.05/min to Colombian cells and usually pretty clear, but some of these voip schemes may be even cheaper.

Hola!

I use 12Voip.com and SMSDiscount.com. They give 5 hours free a week to call Colombian landlines. VoipBuster is also the same company as well as VoipStunt & VoipDiscount. They have even more, but they have different rates, so compare all of them.

12Voip charges .02 Euros and SMSDiscount charges .03 Euros after talking more than 5 hours a week. 12Voip lets you call free for 3 months and SMSDiscount does it for 4 months.

My wife can talk all day on Sundays(when the family gathers) for free. She also has video free.

Of course both parties need broadband for it to work effectively.

Hola!

My wife likes for me to call her on the landline telephone, since she can do the laundry or cook food while we talk. She has a 200K DSL, but she can not always sit down to chat online! We talk for free about 90 minutes a day, but she gets online other times for free to get even more time.
