Hey guys! Well, right now I am teaching English in Quito, Ecuador. American, 22, and in love with all things Colombian. I like Quito, but its NOT Cali. I was wondering if anyone has any information on how to get a teaching job in Cali. Is it better to just go there in person for a few days and look for places? I have my bachelor´s degree, a year teaching experience, and my TEFL certificate. How much money can you make? Enough to live on? Are ALL of the colegios 2 year commitments? Please help me get to mi querido pais!!!! Gracias!

Last time I was there I was told that any time I wanted to go back to teaching this would be the time: there's a shortage of English teachers in the city. I don't live in Cali any more, and even if I did, I probably wouldn't want to teach English any more. Done that, and though it was fun and a marvelous experience, i have moved on to another country and other kind of activities. "When shall we three meet again? The bilingual schools, Colegio Bolivar (gringo-oriented), Colegio Britanico, Colegio Bennett and Colegio Jefferson certainly pay you a decent monthly salary in Colombian standards. Some of the institutes (if not all) pay by hour, and the money is not that good. All Colombian employers are bound by law to pay you two (or one and a half) extra salary per year in prima and cesantia plus two week's vacation. These things may have changed after I left, but I'm sure there's somebody here to update this information. I would say yes, you can live on your salary as an English teacher in Cali, depending of course on your standards and what kind of housing you'd like to have. "When shall we three meet again?
