"I implore you to pray for me and my team as we head down there."

THIS IS NOT MY BLOG, ITS A RANDOM ONE I FOUND! I like to read blogs about traveling in Colombia and I came across this gem!

http://www.hupothesis.com/2008/02/colombia-travel-advisory-reading.htm...

Colombia Travel Advisory Reading

Tonight I decided to read through the travel advisory that the we got from our Travel agent regarding Colombia. Little did I know that Colombia is actually considered to be one of the worst spots to travel at the moment.

"Due to violent crime and the threat of terrorism against Westerners and Western interests, a US Department of Stat consular warning currently advises against all travel to Colombia."

Oh joys! When reading further, I come to the realization that this is a country that is truly not as safe as I once naively thought. We have to be constantly on our guard, not travel at night and not to trust anyone posing as a police officer.

This all comes to me as a sick realization in my stomach that I am about to be stretched, beyond what I have understood. I will be traveling outside of my country and entering into a country that will be completely foreign, even the language will be different. This will be the first time this will happen to me.

Taking all of this into consideration I now realize how important it is for prayer and support for this trip. It will only be through the grace that God gives us that we can travel to this country do what were called to do there and come back safely.

From a complete novice traveler, I implore you to pray for me and my team as we head down there. We need your support.

I believe he may need a new travel agent . There are no new travel warnings against travel to Colombia.
According to this it looks like he stayed nice and safe in Bogota.

Back from Colombia

Sitting at my desk in my room is somewhat of an unrealistic experience. After leaving Canada two weeks ago to head down to Bogota to help run a camp for church leaders and camp leaders, taking thousands of pictures and being able to meet so many great people, I have to say that my heart is still back in Colombia. It is a difficult circumstance, considering I need to make sure that my heart is here at Kaleo.

After seeing and interacting with the culture and people of Colombia my heart has broken for the country. Seeing the children, laughing with them and then having to say goodbye, it brings me to the edge of crying. What is it that I can do, how can I possibly change any of this? All I could do when I was with them was take their picture then laugh with them as they saw their pictures. Is this really changing anything?

Maybe it's just my very tired brain going into overtime, maybe it's actually a passion within me that is starting come to the surface. All I know is that the faces of the people I met there are burned into my heart and mind.

I will repeat this again. THAT IS NOT MY BLOG. I randomly came across it and thought it was pretty ridiculous and funny.

Buongone says on Apr 5, 2008, 00:40:

jmb161. So what are you heading down to Colombia for anyway? If you don't mind me asking. That's just the State Dept throwing Paranoia your way. As in any travel to a country that you have never been too. Just be vigilant. Keep your eyes and ears open. Valuables in a safespot. Try to speak the language. Have a good time & enjoy the trip. You'll be glad you did. If not for any thing else, you will have a different perspective on life. Oh yea!! Take alot of pictures. Chao!

Medellin Traveler says on Apr 5, 2008, 02:49:

Sorry jmb61, but no amount of praying will save you from the dangers in Colombia, praying to God doesn't work.

You're on your own.

Have fun in Colombia!

Science proves evolution.... men who wanted to control the population wrote the bible.... I don't trust men in power, or those who seek to control the minds and lives of the masses.

Religon scares me.

Especially those so-called religous folks who want to save the world, yet they are a freakin' train wreck, destroy loved ones lives while sacrificing their own family to help others. What a crock!

They've done more than a few studies about "the effect of prayer on the growth of plants''... and everytime... the plants that were a direct object of regular prayer, grew faster, bigger, more healthy.....

prayer is a force; use it for good.

I don´t know about plants and praying ( I´m skeptical prone though) but according to Discovery´s Myth Busters plants growth is enhanced by music, and from different kinds of music used to play to plants, the one with the most growth was heavy metal.
Soon plants will be singing, " I wanna rock and roll all night, and party everyday..."?

Papi, many posters here jump at the chance to say the most controversial things or attack another poster. Most of the time they are illogical, repetitive, and blatantly stupid statements. You cannot stop or even contain these people. They have found acceptance on PBH for one reason or another - acceptance that they do not experience in the real world. I suppose a lot of people like these miscreants are online, however PBH seems to have a disproportionate share.

robi666 says on Apr 5, 2008, 11:18:

You are right Aaron, but why does Jmb161 hate Colombia enough to misinform people about this country?

"I am a citizen of the most beautiful nation on earth. A nation whose laws are harsh yet simple, a nation that never cheats, which is immense and without borders, where life is lived in the present."

Papi de Alejo says on Apr 5, 2008, 11:25:

Aaron & Robi, I agree. As to Jmb, I don't think that he hates Colombia. This one thread does not a pattern make. In fact in this thread, I think that he is trying to tell all of us who have affection for Colombia that our work may be harder than we think. I appreciate knowing that there are misinformed people out there who think that they have to dodge bullets as soon as they leave the airport a la Bosnia jejeje.

When my friends and associates talk like that I set them straight. In fact, I probably have about 10 people interested in seeing what Colombia is like for themselves. When strangers talk like that I walk right past them.

To the credit of the original author of the blog, s/he came back and talked about how much they enjoyed their visit. It would have been nice if they directly denoiunced their previous position but whatever.

Juanes says on Apr 5, 2008, 12:18:

exavtly robi, people like this are so not in the know and have too many preconceptions of what visiting colombia or parts of the country will be like. aaron/papi, take the time to read the link and you will see the words are misinformed for those of us who have spent time there...one other thing, when the guy gets back safely to canada maybe he will write a blog (like i have done when visiting cartagena through ipiales and every in between which is positive) or entry to see that he didnt need the 'power' of prayer and that his photography trip to bogota went well...none of us are getting at the poster , just the muppet behind the post with his blog on colombia......we get idtios like the blogger in the uk writing sensationalist articles all the time or putting colombia in a list as in the top ten for danger tourism like in the middle east or africa, and the thing that gets me is there are loads of other places in central america and brasil much dangerous and the blogger whose visiting should not be assuming, cos he makes an ass of himself.
