I have the job - now the work visa?

Hi,
I've been hired by a Colombian company in Medellin (not a teaching position, it's an internship for my MBA). Right now they're going through the mountain of paperwork to get me authorised (certificado de proporcionalidad) so that I can apply for a work visa. I am a Canadian citizen and am currently in my country, but I wanted to know if I could submit my application through another consulate/embassy in say, Caracas, Quito, or Panama. Are there any issues with that?

Thanks,
Ryan

It depends If you live in Toronto, Montreal or Ottowa you must get to the Colombian embassy.

If you're really far away from any embassy or consulate then you must contact the colombian embassy in Ottawa or the consulate in Montreal and ask them how to proceed with the application.

They may tell you to go to the nearest South American consulate. You would have to ask them because in the end they're the ones in charge of giving you the visa.

its best to do it as close to home as possible. improves the chances for success.

you will want to get a lawyer to help you with the paperwork. my first work visa a lawyer did the heavy lifting, i went to the chicago consulate and had my visa in 5 mins.

MBA internship in Colombia WOW! I didn't know about internships in Colombia. I would love to learn more about similar opportunities. I have my Bachelor's from the States, but would love to obtain my MBA abroad. How did you guys do it?

Thank you so much :-)
