I Have Cheese In My Luggage!

Hi You Guys,
Can I bring some good Wisconsin cheese and sealed bottles of herbs such as Basil and Oregano on my trip to Bogota in a couple of weeks?
I'm planning on putting it in my checked luggage in a thermo bag to keep it as cool as possible.
I know food items are subject to exclusion at times but your experiences and comments, as always, help to fill in the blanks.
I'm going O'Hare>Dulles>El Dorado

Cheers

Rubito,... I know you are at least as fuckin crazy as I am ... so, I want to know if you have ever tried smokin any of those herbs.. jaj... no, I haven't. But, maybe there's one or two that would be good to lace into a joint now and then.... well, that is, if one still was partaking.

Why Not Colombia?..........Stay Tuned, for more.... utterly worthless, self-indulgent gobbets of nonsense.

peter...i dunno if they export, but i have a lady friend who's way deep in the know on such things, she owns a spice shop in poblado. go up calle 10 from the park...up about 4 or 5 blocks (i think it's the corner where pablos old office building still stands) turn left and it's the 2nd maybe 3rd shop on your left. she used to be one of my furniture designers as well. i can't remember her name it's been over 16-18 years. i do know the shop is still there. it's a great shop for folks looking for spices and herbs. just ask for the owner.

rubito....first time i took morning glory seeds (heavenly blue) i took 3 or 4 packs...to make it easier to get it down, i, like a stupid ass, mixed it with a little under a half cup of honey. i spent the next 12-15 hours hallucinating about the fireball of honey in my gut. ooooooooo. i've also done jimson and and nightshade (belladona). the latter sends 'little people' to your feted brain.

back in my misspent youth, I did my level best to roll and smoke every ounce of colombian "herb" that came within 50 miles of me. This was WELL before the coke explosion.

Come to think of it - I must have contributed FAR more than my share to the economic welfare of des's beloved campesinos.

Do I get an "attaboy" for that, des? ;)

You've eased my mind on the concerns I had for bringing perishable food in. I wasn't hot on the idea of losing a big wheel of custom cheddar to the DAS lunchwagon, it's just that those guys look at me with a little extra vigilance every time I pass through the checkpoints, much as the American screeners do I must admit...must fit into some sort of profile, who knows...

Good God, how the world has changed. Now we're worried about getting busted for wheels of cheese when transiting to/from colombia. ;)

yup. i bought the lamb in ecuador.. i was actually planning on bringing in two frozen legs of lamb from new zealand but was not sure how they would fare with the 24 hour journey. the good news is that now you can buy lamb at Pomona supermarket... I'm trying to support them by a lot so they'll keep the supply.. other than that buy lamb at the Palo Quemado market in Bogota and bus it over.

if you're up around the airport in medellin, when you're coming out back to the glorietta, on your right is a carnicaria of the first class. best beef, pollo and lamb around. it's a little stand out in the field. everything's local and the best.
