PBH / colombia (travelguide, pictures) / post

I have an Inquisition, about the pricing and paying for a ROUND-TRIP ticket FROM COLOMBIA:

If some people can't help here, then I will research it anyway, and report back, but this is my question:

Is it the same fare, for traveling the 'other way', that is, from Colombia to the States and then back to Colombia? Most of the Q's here are in regards to traveling TO COLOMBIA and returning to the States.

The UNIMAGINABLE: my gf may be getting the help that is needed from her company, to get a tourist visa, to visit the USA. I am hoping with my fingers crossed, for maybe her to be able to come here at The Thanksgiving Week.

So, then. Okay, Q #2 is 'How long does it take to acquire a Tourist visa? Is this something that can be done much faster without the 6 month wait for an interview?

Any help ahead of time is appreciated.

not sure if this will help... i've checked out the colombia to u.s. route, and a lot of the online ticket services don't handle flights originating out of the u.s.

There is almost no wait time for an interview for a tourist visa. It can be as little as a week.

As for airfares, tickets purchased in Colombia for travel to and from the US are cheaper than the other way around. Travelocity, orbitz and expedia all handle travel not originating in the US. In fact travel to Medellin from Monterrey, Mexico is $400 cheaper than a comparable fare from Houston. For us Monterrey is even a shorter drive than Houston.

Odd thing about orbitz. It doesn't handle travel originating in Colombian cities but it does handle travel originating in Mexican cities.

Colombia to US and Return I tried all the on line travel companys and none with the exception on Expidia support bookings from Cartagena to Miami. Although Expidia will give you the flight information when you try to book the flight they dont do E tickets and say you have to take delivery of the ticket by mail but then they dont show Colombia as a country you can take delivery in. If you go to the Avianca office to try and book a flight they want to charge you $300.00US more than what is quoted on line. The way I did it was to print out all the info from Expidia and take it to a travel agency and tell them you want exactly those flights, they will meet the on line price you can pay with a credit card and get your ticket the same day. My wife did exactly what Boatygringo described above. I sent her the info and she went to a travel agent and got exactly those flights.

Ringo, with all due respect I don't think I can ever quite match your intellect.

BTW, you said in your opening post that you have an "Inquisition" regarding travel to Colombia. Are you are one of those guys who are acting as judge, jury, and exectioner, like one of those inquisitors back during the time of the "Spanish Inquisition."

Wrong word......Mr. Know It All. Inquisition is used when you are inquiring into a matter, or an occurence. You don't use the word to find out the price of a ticket.

"Inquisition"......lol.

how in country flights I go to the AeroRepublic website and find flights from Cali to Cartagena less 200 US dollars roundtrip. You think print that out and take it to Cali and then get the same deal? Should I get it at the airport when I land? Any thoughts? thanks.

Wrong again Ringodiego....very wrong What level of education did you obtain.
Inquisition is NOT the same as inquisitive, or inquiring. The word is related but it is not not the same in meaning. Check a dictionary fool. Forget it, I'll help you. Nobody, and I mean nobody who understands the English language would use that word in the manner that you did.

Here is Encarta's defintion:

Inquisition

In·qui·si·tion

noun
Definition:

tribunal for judging heretics: a former organization in the Roman Catholic Church established to find, question, and sentence those who did not hold orthodox religious beliefs. The Spanish Inquisition lasted until the 19th century and was known for its harsh punishments and use of torture.

Freedictionary.com's definition:

in·qui·si·tion Pronunciation (nkw-zshn, ng-)
n.
1. The act of inquiring into a matter; an investigation. See Synonyms at inquiry.
2. Law
a. An inquest.
b. The verdict of a judicial inquiry.
3.
a. Inquisition A tribunal formerly held in the Roman Catholic Church and directed at the suppression of heresy.
b. An investigation that violates the privacy or rights of individuals.
c. A rigorous, harsh interrogation.

Word Central's definition:

Main Entry: in·qui·si·tion
Pronunciation: "in-kw&-'zish-&n
Function: noun
1 : the act of inquiring
2 : INQUEST
3 a capitalized : a former Roman Catholic court for the discovery and punishment of heresy b : an investigation conducted with little concern for individual rights c : a severe questioning
- in·qui·si·tion·al /-'zish-n&l, -&n-&l/ adjective

Ringodiego... ...in all due respects it might better convey your intent if you choose another word. We understood what you mean but most of us would use another word for the purpose.

Certainly don't wish to get between you two members but sometimes we need to acknowledge our mistake and move on.
