... in response to the Meeting yesterday in Bogota with Uribe and the father and the professors and such.. and One Lady is held up again in Tuquerres, and can't get home to Pasto, because of road blocks... not mudslides...
ANY ONE got any other reports. She said there is much demonstration across Colombia today. COULD THIS BE WHERE THEY HANG URIBE?

goin_south says on Aug 3, 2007, 10:48: ok....good enough for me... but then... something must be going on down south, and in the same fashion as Pasto being the end of the jokes, I don't think all the news gets back up to Bogota and the other bigger northern cities so fast, many times. y, un mil gracias. |

goin_south says on Aug 3, 2007, 10:50: lol, Hollywood. I know ..... you were probably working on the Joke de Jour de Pasto, when you read that. y, un mil gracias. |

Mr. Hollywood says on Aug 3, 2007, 11:00: What, specifically, are the demonstrations about?
|
|
goin_south says on Aug 3, 2007, 11:14: I didn't get specifics. I only called to see if she had returned home and, I didn't have alot of time, as I was beginning work. I just repeated what she said in short. She was suppose to be home in Pasto yesterday. And, I didn't have time to assess weather she thought she would be able to go today. I think she said, she wasn't really sure when... just waiting day by day. y, un mil gracias. |
|
goin_south says on Aug 3, 2007, 11:18: and, she did say 'mucho gentes' en either protest, or demonstrations... maybe it was just around Narino. And, something about because of Uribe and the debate or talks with a professor...yesterday. Might that have been the lady that he reportedly was in a yelling match with? y, un mil gracias. |

Robert Jorge says on Aug 3, 2007, 22:34: Don't worry too much G.S. My first trip to Colombia, all 10 days of it, saw the roads shut down in the small city of Bogota for 3 days. (public transportation drivers went on strike and then rioted). It seems shutting down transportation routes is a tactic by both the government and the public. Imagine the Interstate Hwy System getting shut down in the US! But in Colombia, it happens all the time. It is just ... well, normal M.O. --"I believe in making the world safe for our children. But not for our children's children, because I don't think that children should be having sex." - Jack Handy |

rmykita says on Aug 4, 2007, 16:28: Get with the program...Uribe is the most popular, and undoubtedly best president Colombia has had in the last 50 years. His opposition is a minority, and weak at that...
