I DONT WANT A UNIBROW

Okay,
My friend from Bogota was telling me the other day that if you pluck or twease your eyebrow many consider that to be gay or transexual. This information discourages me a bit. I wouldnt want to be considered a homosexual or transexual because I dislike the idea of having a unibrow. Is that the case in Colombia? If I go and get rid of my unibrow they would think negatively of me because of that...

Personal grooming is a good thing I thought. Here in the USA (well the north east) you wouldnt want to be caught with a Unibrow. Do Colombian people like having unibrows? is that cool or something
Even as a foriegner would they look down on me for not looking like a Mr.Potato head?

Is there anything else I should know about? When it comes to cultural no nos

Unibrow You know what? Though it may seem silly, I have wondered about this too. I have noticed a lot of otherwise good looking young Colombian boys have unibrows and they seem almost oblivious to the invention of the tweezer. My boyfriend is from Bogotá and I talked him into tweezing it, but there are still plenty of others who leave theirs. I notice this with Ecuadorians too.

The problem with me is that my eyebrows are extremely dark. I asked a few friends what is the first noticable facial feature and they unamiously stated my eyebrows. So being the smart guy I take extra care of them. If you look at my picture you can see for yourself about the darkness of my eyebrows.

Is there any thing else culturally I should be aware of?

I use a razor shaver to get rid of my unibrow and it works fine. No plucking and no unibrow -- perfect solution

Dude, If I were you, I'd be far more concerned that one side of my face was red and the other blue... just my opinion.

See, I don't have that problem. I have half brown/ blond eyebrows and they're arched so they give me an angry appearance or so I've been told . I have to darken them up to make them all one color.

I think you look a little effeminate. I would most certainly let the unibrow grow in, the thicker the better. Also lay off the makeup.

That is too funny. Um is it bad to have your pictures up? Has there been incidents or anything cause I dont want trouble.

There's a BIG difference between you tweezing your unibrow so it's not a unibrow any more and waxing and shaping your eyebrows, that would make you look like a homosexual...... you won't have a problem at all. It's the guys that wax and shap their eyebrows that make you wonder what the hell they are!!! I knew a guy who was very masculine, and actually very gorgeous but then all of the sudden he started waxing his eyebrows and it was VERY obvious he was doing so... that made me (and most everyone around him) think twice about him. So, what I'm saying is, go ahead and tweeze, stay away from wax, though tweezing the first few times will most likely hurt like hell but will keep your manhood from being questioned... DEFINITELY! Hope this helps!

The Big A Hey Im not a gringo lol I am half Colombian but I was raised majoritively in Colombian Culture here in the states and nobody thinks I am white in the states but rather the kid with a "strange look." I tend to think exoctic lol

Me I definately got the Colombian gene pool of the family. Big A its not 100% Colombia (50-50) because its ultimately up to my parents with the final descision. Its between Spain and Colombia. The main reason I want to go to Colombia is to study Spanish. I am tired of hanging around family, and hispanic friends without understanding whats going on when they speak Spanish. I kinda feel like a fake...you know I am "hispanic" yet I cant speak Spanish. There are some ulterior motives for my reason to go to Colombia rather than Spain and its mostly for my personal identity. I am a second generation Colombian American without much to offer with my heritage other than my looks and family.

Also Ive been thinking if I learn the language both orally and written I could study in a Colombian institution for my degree and save money (opposed to paying out the gazoo in an American institution).
Sincerely,
Gordon P.

getting back on topic.. personally, guys with unibrows aren't that bad,i mean..
i definitely agree with adrimm; just do what feels right and just forget about what other people think, cuz at the end of the day its you who has to look at yourself and feel good about yourself. and..j.i.c. it has nothing to do with being colombian..lol ;)

If the unibrow gets to you.... Get laser hair removal. It looks natural and after 4 or 5 sessions, the hair will not grow back. It will be cheap for such a small patch of skin. Just get rid of the bush in the middle, don't touch the arches otherwise you will end up looking like either a metrosexual or a Daddy Yankee wannabe.

I definitely think it looks a little gay when guys really have their eyebrows just so, and it is obvious how they spent alot of time on it. Just a little too neat. In the North East I think there is defenitely the clean cut (metro sexual) look that pulls chicks. But like admin said who gives an f about what someone like me thinks, I would go with Colombiche because she probably knows what the colombiches like.
