It is a part of the metro system and that seems to have been built by german and Spanisf firms, but the following article is not quite clear.

The pictures were taken with a Sony Cybershot, 7.2 megapixels. The palm-size Aiptek DV 5900 camcorder works great for $60; camera, video, mp3, audio recorder, and webcam.

Nope... I looks like it may be a French (originally french) multinational called Poma.

their website: http://www.poma.net/english/index.html

And a 2004 newsletter showing the inaugration of a cable line in *2004*.. Are they alphabetical.. would the 2004 line have been "Line A"? http://www.poma.net/english/actualite/info/info12/info12.pdf

bartolo_colon says on May 11, 2008, 21:11:

MiamiMike I am almost positive the old system is from Siemens, I think I remember seeing a plaque somewhere. It looks like this line is from Poma.

Was the Christ always there in that barrio or was it erected new as part of the new cable car line? I like it.

Medellin Traveler says on May 12, 2008, 14:53:

NIN,

I have no idea when the christ was erected. It's about half way up the metro cable. The video I posted above is in real time, it takes about 12 minutes to get to the top. YouTube only lets you upload 10 minute videos. Overall, the ride was 30 minutes, with a few sudden stops in between.

Great view!

You must have gone during the week. On the weekends, it is slowed down to take 20 minutes each way. I went on a Sunday.

Medellin Traveler says on May 12, 2008, 17:37:

tomtom,
I went on a Saturday afternoon, long lines everywhere about town, not just the cable cars.

Is this the only metro cable line currently in service? When we were there in August of 06 there was a rumor of another to be constructed? Or perhaps THIS is that rumored line?

MT, We rode the new tram in april.. We got off 3 minutes before the cars started swayin as a storm came rolling in.. Just in time, cause when theres lightning and high wind they stop the tram with the people still on it until its safe to start up again.. A couple of stations down the line we heard the announcements that the tram was closed.. It was well worth the ride though..

Medellin Traveler says on May 13, 2008, 03:28:

Yeah. I would not suggest anyone planning on a trip to the cable cars if rain is in the forecast.

lpdiver says on May 13, 2008, 15:43:

On our trip last year on the other cable car line I sat next to a lady who had been stranded in a cable car for a long time and then to add insult to injury she had to take a taxi back down into the city. She indicated that the taxi ride took an hour and she had to travel through some really sketchy areas.

My wife was very reluctant to get out and explore at the station near the top as she felt it wasn't safe.
