Hello All,
I ran across an issue today when I went to the Social Security Office to change the name on the Social Security cards.
My wife arrived on a K-1 on June 21 and was issued a I-94 that expires on Sept. 21. We got married on Aug. 20. The marriage license was received today and we rushed to the SS office to apply for the name change. The lady said that we could not because the I-94 has to be at least 14 from the date of expiration.(It expires today).
What do I do?
I have a feeling that I need to go to the INS office in Miami but we are talking at least a month for an appointment. This is how long it took to get an appointment the last time I had to go.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Neonovo says on Sep 21, 2005, 10:49: Catch-22 it is... We got the I-94 09/16/05 (exp 12/15/05), day of arrival (Ft. Laud), and went to the SS office 09/20/05, but did not rec'd a #; rather, a letter telling us they must 1st "check" docs, then if all is kosher, she'll get her #, up to 4 weeks from today.

kolkes says on Sep 24, 2005, 09:27: Before you got married...? Did she get a SSN before you guys married? Is that the process of the K1 visa. I believed the first thing to do was to get married...then apply for EAD and SSN...

utopiacowboy says on Sep 24, 2005, 10:25: My wife never changed her name, Kolkes. It really seems a lot simpler for her to just keep the same name since everything is in that name, her Colombian cedula, her Colombian passport, her Texas driver's license, her SS card, her green card etc. It just seems like a lot of hassle to change the name - just look at this thread. Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
