I-864? Needed for Fiance Visa?

Does anyone know if it is necessary to complete an I-864 form when applying for a Fiance Visa? The instructions on the OF 169 form are not real clear as to whether or not it is necessary. I believe that it is only necesary when my fiance gets to the US and we are married and need to file a Change of Status. Any thoughts?

no, you need the I-134 for the fiance visa (Didn't you already send it with your I-129F application?)

You are correct, the I-864 is only necesary for filling for Adjustment of STatus

Normally the I-134 (and all the supporting documentation) is sent to the fiance for her to bring to the interview.

It should not be sent with the I-129F application as it'll probably just get lost.

Just to be on the safe side, I hand delivered mine :)

The I-864 is sent with the AOS paperwork but since it contains much the same information as the I-134 you should keep a copy of the I-134 to help fill out the I-864.

Of course, you should keep a copy of everything you send to the government.

Thanks! Thanks for the information. I will be so glad when he finally gets his Visa and I won't have to worry so much about understanding all this immigration language.
Thanks again!

Its not over yet mire Once he is in USA you still have to follow the requirements - you need to get married within 90 days and then apply for AOS (much more paperwork then K1) - also required or needed are SSN, state ID (or drivers license), EAD (authorization to work), AP (if he wants to travel outside the country before getting the green card), Biometrics (for the greencard prior to the interview) - plus making sure you keep track of dates and expiration of permits, licenses etc. - So you need to study even more after the K1 visa is granted - otherwise you may end up violating some of the rules and be denied for the greencard - its very critical to be aware of what you need to do from now till he gets his green card and then again in 2 years for the permannet greencard - then you can relax (for 10 years.) Take a look at the posts and guides on Visa Journey - you need to know the requirements so you can keep up with them. Good luck
