I-134 Affidavit Of Support

Hey Everyone,
I just read the instructions for the I-134 Affidavit Of Support. It says that you only need to submit all of your tax returns if you are self-employed. If this is the case, then why is everyone saying to have the last three years tax returns on hand regardless? According to the instructions you only need all of that if you are self-employed. Just curious. I don't keep 3 years worth of tax returns so it would be a pain for me to get all of them and I don't want to go to the trouble if it is not necessary. Does anybody have first hand experience with this? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

Jay

Proof of Income Personally, I brought copies of mine and they checked them off a big checklist that they had. You definatly need to have some proof of income.

Put it this way. They have their guidelines, but can be real assholes if they want to be. Bring EVERYTHING you can possibly bring. If you feel you are right, say so. I got a major attitude in Bogotá and told the same guy off on two seperate occasions. Both times it worked in my favor, second time asshole trying to be chummy with me and all. I´m not suggesting to blow up at them (even though I did), but don´t get pushed over either.

The embassy requires that you show proof of income. This comes in the instructions that will be sent to your novia. They want the W-2s, tax returns, letter from employer and a year's worth of bank statements or letter from your bank.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

About the I-134 Affadavit of Support Many people do not realize that signing an I-134 Affadavit of Support is a ten-year commitment to take care of all financial expenses. If the person you sign for is hospitalized from a car accident you as signer of the Affidavit of Support are responsible for all hospital and medical expenses. Same deal with welfare. No welfare benefits will be forthcoming from the USA government. You will provide welfare from your pocket.

Isn't love a wonderful thing?

What if your bank statements are not strong enough, meaning low balance and NSF's?

N2aquatics You can get back copies of your income taxes easily and painlessly. One way is to send off and pay for a complete copy. Personally I just called up the IRS and they faxed me a copy of the transcripts while I held on another line. ( The gentleman wanted to be sure I received them)
