Husband of ex-hostage says marriage may be over

BOGOTA, Colombia - The husband of rescued Colombian hostage Ingrid Betancourt says their marriage may be over.

In an interview with the Bogota newspaper El Tiempo, Juan Carlos Lecompte acknowledges what many noted when the two reunited in front of TV cameras after last week's rescue.

Betancourt greeted him coldly.

Then she went to France without him, accompanied by her two children from a previous marriage.

Lecompte says in the interview published Wednesday that Betancourt's love for him "could have disappeared" during her six years as a rebel hostage.

He dismisses as gossip published rumors of an affair while Betancourt was captive. Lecompte had worked hard for Betancourt's release.

The two were married in 1997.

Interesting. I know someone had brought up the fact that she was cold in an earlier post. I brushed it off at first, but maybe it is true.

Big surprise, after she quickly headed of to France with her ex!

I was misled also, seeing the foto with her husband.

Seems that some people think "everybody's outa step but me".

I wonder how she found it so quick if that was the case. We all noticed her coldness immediately after she was freed. Maybe her mother quickly gave her the low-down on him. Thats unfortunate after all he did for her while she was hostage. If anyone watch the documentary he kept on fighting for her.

I'm sure she heard the rumours on the radio. Between Caracol and RCN, they can be worse the National Enquirer.

Here is what he said a few days ago.

-----------------------

Ver a Ingrid feliz me hace feliz. Pero no hay felicidad completa porque en este momento quisiera estar con ella...estoy confundido, no sé qué pensar".

Really, it's almost impossible for a relationship to survive a blow like that, marriage or no. It was like she was dead for 6 years. Plus her kids are from a previous marriage so they don't even have that as a tie to keep them together. Whether he was faithful or no, her feelings for him are not going to be the same, and vice-versa.

Has it reached positive numbers yet?

you guys!!!

in his own way, her husband dealt with his pain in probably the only way he could. "if you can't be with the one you love, honey, love the one you're with" just knowing that his wife was undoubtedly being violated horribly in the selva must have been real heavy.....

i just wish them both all the best to reclaim, each, his/her own life as best they can.

I feel for him. I mean, he was put in a very difficult situation because even if the marriage was practically over before she was kidnapped, it's not like he could restart his life on his own or with someone else. He was damned if he didn't do anything for Ingrid and he was damned if he did, if he moved to a different country or if he stayed in Colombia trying to get her freedom, if he filed for divorce or not, if he dated someone else or not. That is just a horrible situation for anybody, especially not knowing if she was alive or not or if she was ever going to be set free.

I'm pretty sure he tried to get himself ready for this but the way she has handled it is not the right way for sure.
