For months I have been preparing for this, the departure of my husband to his homeland of Colombia. We have a fairly new marraige, 5 months, and were living peacefully and happily in NYC until last month. Then, he had to return to Bogota, and now we must wait out a sentence of 5? 7? 9? months until the I-130 visa process has been completed.
All the preparation, all the great moments together, all the photo taking in the world, could not have prepared me for how unbelievably difficult this is. The uncertainty, the waiting, the difficulty of communicating regularly, all of this is too much. I don't think I'm looking for any answers, just a place to express my pain and anxiety.
I have read a few other similar stories on this site. It would be great to read more, if anyone cares to share theirs. One question I do have, actually, how common/uncommon is it for men to have to wait out the petition and visa process in Colombia? I read about women waiting, the coming to the US as a fiance, etc. Are there any bumps that can be expected because the man of a couple is the Colombian citizen?
Thanks for reading.
