Hunting or fishing in Cali/Armenia area?

A friend of mine will only visit me in Armenia if there is some kind of fishing or hunting (anmals, not girls) in the area. I'm thinking fishing yes, but hunting?
Anyone know? He doesn't hike, but likes other outdoor activities. We have a family finca, but don't know if you can hunt on it, and for what?
Thanks, Maureen

I'm sure there's fishing Fishing sounds great. Convince him to take a flight to Leticia and fish for pirahnas. where else could you do that? On the other hand, I think it might be ill-advised for your average gringo (I'm assuming that) to just pick up a gun and start wandering around the wilds of the Cali area. Seems just as likely to become prey as hunter.

dear Maureen
Now you are in Armenia after been in Cali? Are you planning to come back here? It is just that I would like to listen you at the phone-at least. I'll let you know my movil phone or let me know yours

I recommend you, near to Armenia, El Valle del Cocora. There is a small town(8000 people)close there named Salento. Probably you know that. Salento is full of visitors every time specially in December because there are town parties.

He work as manager of the "chalet" I stayed(w my family). I forget his name, email me and let me know if you are interested. The chalet was named Hato Grande

mine too but I do prefer the North Atlantic Salmon, "fjordlax" (Salmo salar)because it's larger and doesn't have those small irritating spines.
Tilapia was a great disappointment; tasteless are boring. Of Colombian fishes I like the trout, róbalo and pargo rojo.
Sancocho de pescado from the olla de la negra del segundo piso de la galería de Buenaventura was once-a-lifetime culinary experience. I have never ever tasted anything better amidst so much filth and nauseating odours.
Cheers,
Desi

Salmon is also great When I lived in WA I often went salmon and trout fishing. I prefer the Pacific salmon over Atlantic salmon, but tastes differ.

Is deep-sea fishing common in Colombia?

When you posted a picture last week, my first reaction was “this modefoque is a fisherman, and looks just like the guys in the party boats I fish on”. I was to go fishing today but my punk ass friends chicken out because of the lousy NYC weather. Now, I’m stuck at home playing with this damn computer.

I'll get there, when I get there!

Elmo it looks like the computer is playing with you ....

I never knew I look like a fisherman ... but I enjoy fishing for food, not as a sport. I only toss fish back when they are too small to eat. And fishing can be relaxing too, except when the bears and cougars decide to fish for salmon as well.

Vancouver Island I went to the island several times, Port Renfew, Nanaimo, Courtenay, Port Alberni, and Tofino were the towns I remember visiting. I did some whale and orcas watching too. Butchart Garden is absolutely beautiful. Not sure if I spelled all right.

expensive salmon

Salmon...delicious and expensive. Best option for me: truchas, but I love "camarones"(shrimps)also. Here in Cali and Buenaventura you can find the best taste.

Someone of you know Buenaventura?

Salmonids Hi there !

By my handle I'm sure that you understand why I'm responding to this post. I have salmon on the brain and I live to battle this amazing species. I have nothing but repect for this animal and wonder about it's mysterious life cycle. Not even science can tell you exactly how
this fish can return to the exact waters that they are born in after 3 to five years in the sea and exactly where they go when they migrate to the sea.

I have fished both salt and fresh water but prefer fresh. I have battled Atlantic and Pacific salmon and the Chinook or King certainly lives up to it's name. Most places in the world that these fish are native too, they support an entire economy as well as an entire ecology.

I can still remember vividly like it was today when I saw the first one I ever caught for the first time. I was awed by the majesty of this animal and was forced to respect it's strength and will to complete it's life cycle. For me it was a life changing experience
and I recomend it to anyone to try at least once.

I will be going to Colombia to visit my future wife in the early part of 2005 and was wondering about fishing opportunities, especially fresh water. I would appreciate any info on fishing in the Santander region of the country.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Motofish.
